Re: Great Lyrics...

Whole song for me...

This years love had better last
Heaven knows it's high time
And I've been waiting on my own too long
But when you hold me like you do
It feels so right
I start to forget
How my heart gets torn
When that hurt gets thrown
Feeling like you can't go on

Turning circles when time again
It cuts like a knife oh yeah
If you love me got to know for sure
Cos it takes something more this time
Than sweet sweet lies
Before I open up my arms and fall
Losing all control
Every dream inside my soul
And when you kiss me
On that midnight street
Sweep me off my feet
Singing ain't this life so sweet

This years love had better last
This years love had better last

So whose to worry
If our hearts get torn
When that hurt gets thrown
Don't you know this life goes on
And won't you kiss me
On that midnight street
Sweep me off my feet
Singing ain't this life so sweet

This years love had better last
This years love had better last
This years love had better last
This years love had better last

David Gray - This years love.

EDIT: Doh, tupping new theme

Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home

Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

Anyhow I'm hard-pressed to come up with any single song of theirs as my favourite, nevermind a line or two, but the first two lines of "At the Hundredth Meridian" always make me smile:

Me debunk an American myth?
And take my life in my hands?

Which to me refers to how wound-up Americans (or America as a nation) can get when challenged about their often-skewed perception of the world and historical events.

i lurrrv the tragically hip !!!!!!

a canadian kid came to our company on a work placement about '91 he left me a tape with up to here and road apples albums on, theyre still among my fav albums , did you know that the Stereophonics were originally called Tragic Love Company after their fav bands tragically hip and bad company, cant remember where the love was from

anyway lyrics from one of my fav songs,

tragically hip - 38 years old.

See my sister got raped, so a man got killed
Local boy went to prison, man's buried on the hill
Folks went back to normal when they closed the case
They still stare at their shoes when they pass our place

Same pattern on the table, same clock on the wall
Been one seat empty 18 years in all
Freezing slow time away from the world
He's 38 years old, never kissed a girl

Two more from the pen of Neil Peart. The opening lines Afterimage, the closeout lines of Witchhunt.

Suddenly you were gone
From all the lives you left your mark upon

Quick to judge
Quick to anger
Slow to understand

Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand

There's a story that when they played this song (which is completely fictional) while touring Europe, Gord Downie had people coming up to him offering their sympathies and saying what a bum rap his brother had got :D

Ewwww.

That's likely a reference to Robert Johnson's traveling riverside blues which the lyrics are:
"I want you to squeeze my lemon...'till the juice runs down my leg"
