Re: How will the insurance try to screw me?

If it was her fault and she was using her insurance but driving your car as it was insured for you then no cash back for the car as third party only (her insurer). She should be the one claiming on her insurance so if the insurers ask if YOU have had a claim or accident, then the answer is no.

If she is on your insurance and full both fully comp then you will get cash for the car but even with protected no claims you will get an increase on the premium. Claim on both name on policy.

The point about scrapping it is a good one, big petrol 4x4s aren't worth much these days... scrap it/sell it and buy something else :)

One thing to remember --if the car is written off the insurance is normally stopped from that point so consider how much insurance you still have running on the policy as that remainder is a loss to you.
eg car value £1000 Excess £200
Remaining insurance value £120
Increase in new premium £130
£450
______
£550
Is it worth loosing the money as you will be paying the increased premium for ever

Everybody's claims departments are snowed under at the mo (if you'll pardon the pun).

Making a polite nuisance of yourself often gets you to the top of the pile.
