This is also one of the fun aspects, if the people debating are open minded and prepared to discuss as opposed to just trying to hammer down a strongly held belief, great things can come out in here.

Awwww, well I love you Oh mighty Org Mods. :D

Some of the most entertaining characters on here (yes I think character is a good word because on here we can choose to create a character of who we want to be thought of as being) do have strong views though, there is one chap in particular who can come across as a bit of a rouh Diamond, but when you need advice, he is kind, considerate and amazingly friendly. The hidden side of the Org is the private messages filled with kind words and it is too easy to forget about those good bits when an insensitive comment can cause upset.

Maybe we don't want to the forum to be always happy and flooded with love, but if you look under the surface, it is anyway! :D

I can vouch for that.

When Dad died, I had calls, text and pm from quite a few of the .Org making sure I was ok.

I only get pms telling me I'm a tw4t, usually from you, and ones from Jayne trying to get me to turn into a filthy lezzer and do depraved things to her

OP,
Although you've got the compulsary ar5ewholes on here as with any other forum, the key difference is that this is not a faceless forum, there are ample oportunities for people on here to meet and greet so there isnt as much hiding behind a username as you find elsewhere.
Most of the stuff on here is quite simply friendly banter, if you look at the locations of those who banter with each other you'll notice the jibes quite often stay within regional sections and thats just because of how often members meet, for example the soho bunch meet almost weekly.
Fair enough it usually takes meeting a person to understand thier typed tone, so a new member or one who hasnt met many other members can be forgiven for thinking this is just like the other internet slanderhouse. Anyone of those familiar with him know the late Hovis is the best example of that, his replys would often create friction on here but anyone who met the guy saw instantly it wasnt a facade it was just how cheeky he was.

I know I can only speak for myself but I activly make an effort not be sarcastic towards anyone I've not met because of how easily it can be misconstrude but once you've met me its obvious I mean no harm its simply that I take very little seriously so once we've met you're fair game ;)

stick around and get to plenty of gatherings and soon enough you'll see we're not all wank3rs on here, although some of us are. :-D

I am not new to the interweb, nor my first forum. I would like to consider myself seasoned in both.

As an example if someone posts "I have just brought a ABCD piece of kit" the reply to some people is "That is **** and useless". Maybe a description of a bad experience with that kit would be better.

I do agree that you can't read tones but sometime you don't have to. I don't mind someone taking the p1$$ as long as there is something constructive in it.

Hit the nail on the head there mate! Sarcastic comments don't help anyone.

**** taking is never constructive. Sarcasm is all to easy too, but succeeds in making any given person look foolish.

If it wasn't for the **** taking and baiting this place would be a hell of a lot more boring.

I'll tend not to take the **** out of people i'm unfamiliar with, but any opportunity.

There is a line between **** taking and ridicule/offensive though. Use the 'smilies' to help convey tone as well...
