The HG filter isn't free, the oil went up £6 as the offer appeared! well £8 now. I wont let that fact go lol.

Wouldnt be suprised it they started selling a £7000 oil bottle with free bike.

HG offer is carp now.It used to be good when they included oil and air filter in the deal.I seviced my bikes for years on that basis.

you can get oil filters for £4 plus vat from any good bike shop
for what the oil filter does its well worth replacing rather than cleaning it
oil filters when made are pressed from machine mouldings and welded in the process so no point in trying to clean

i replace my oil(£10 a litre) and filter after every meeting i go to

Unless your bike is a overbored, twin turbo, NOS injected, with a second motor for good measure;

That is overkill you aint even running the oil in, at £10 l it'll castrol power one fully synth or motul 7100

Just out of curiosity. Do you guys change the oil filter after every oil change i.e. approximately 4000 miles or do you do as recommended by the manual and change it every second oil change? Is there any benefit in changing it every 4000 miles or is it perfectly safe to change it on the second oil change after 8000 miles? I have always replaced it with every oil change, however, in the present economic climate I may save myself money if the consensus of opinion is that its perfectly safe to change it on the second change.

Filters are cheap, engines are not.

So change filter ever oil change for me.

Despite being a Yorkshireman (very tight), I agree with timwilky.
You'll save in the long run.

As a related question, does anyone know if you can/would you use the old oil in a chain oiler?

Just got a Tutoro oiler and wondered if spent oil would be suitable as it's 10/40w anyway.

p.s. sorry for the potential post jacking,
