I agree with that logic, I'd do same.

Plus what are you going to do to it in the event of an off, unless you do a britney and set fire to it then you're fine, you can change a frame or a front end or some tupperware easily.

Exactly. In my case to make FC economical I would need to do £3k worth of damage to the bike which would mean destroying pretty much every part of the bike. This is of course possible.... but risk vs reward?

well i think mine may go down again cos i just found out the new sv has a alarm on it which i didnt know about when i bought the insurance, lets hope for a few more quid in the sky rocket

I guess probably makes sense for you then if those are the numbers.

Difference between fc and tpft has always been less than 100gbp, same for my car. So really the excess and loss of noclaims is the expense, and excess is 500 now. I just like the comfort of knowing if I bin it properly on my own I just pay my excess and its repaired/written off. Minor off I wouldn't bother with insurance.

I've used Express Insurance ever since I bought the SV because they were offering discounts on new Suzuki's and I have never been able to beat their prices since.

Makes sense. You also have to take into account the difference in the accumulative annuity cost of the policy too. TPFT is over a grand cheaper for you (1350 down to 305?), so if you are crash free for three years, you've added 3 grand to your repair pot, before you even think about a grand excess. For older codgers like me FC is worth it (I was quoted £78 FC on the SV last year, but unfortunately that insurer didn't do multi-bike), but where there is a considerable risk, the FC insurance always costs more in the long term. It's why large companies only take TP insurance on company car fleets, and just pay for the repairs when they are needed, essentially underwriting their own FC cover.

well happy with my insurance as well, £80.06 fully comp plus £18.86 for legal expenses, didn't think this was too bad at all.

For now I do, I move to Bracknell next weekend which is further away from work. 17 miles to be exact so 34 miles a day. Just seems like a good idea to get a work horse for the commute rather than doing it on the GSXR. not 100% sure what to get yet, maybe a YBR, maybe something a little larger like a GPZ500.

Basically this will save on fuel, mileage, expensive tyres and servicing and reduce the risk of binning an expensive bike on a commute.

Depends if you are going to go through Ascot or down to the M3, along and back up. If doing motorway I'd want more than a 125 TBH, but then is the M3 moving at more than 50-60mph in rush hour anyway? YBR125's are certainly great on fuel and that would be your biggest saving, Miss YC posted a very high MPG figure recently. Quedos used to ride a CB250, I'll PM her and ask what MPG she used to get. I'd get a shaft driven CVT gearbox maxi-scoot for commuting myself, Suzuki Burgman et al, but then I have no street cred to uphold ;-)

I've been riding for over 8 years, have 5 years no claims (stopped for a couple of years so had to start again) then when i renewed this year my insurance went from £300 to £500 - fully comp with legal, accident, leather insurance etc
their excuse was, we had to raise the costs due to all the payouts for accidents in the snow last year!! feckers!
i consider insurance just a piece of paper to wipe your ass with!
it's not worth the paper it's written on, and they try to get out of paying anyway they can.
insurance use to be "incase sh*t happens" but now it's more like - wanna get screwed over, then buy insurance!

I will be going through Ascot for certain, I have done both routes during rush hour and the motorway is clogged while the back road flows quite nicely. The whole idea of this 2nd bike exercise is to save money so the 125 is ideal on that front... on the other hand I don't want to get stuck on a fast moving road with now power to get me out of trouble.

I really need to get a ride on a 125 to remind myself what they are actually like to be on. No point investing in one of these things to realise that I don't feel safe and then end up taking the gsxr to work anyway.

Edit: Weirdly it is cheaper for me to insure a GS500 than it would be a YBR125. Bikes are of equal value.
