If you take 100 Random people who don't ride bikes, you'll maybe get 10 diamonds, 80 people who don't come under your radar, and 10 pillocks.

If you take the same amount of "bikers, you'll get 30 diamonds, 40 non entities and 30 pillocks.

I've been around the whole "biker" thing since I was a teenager and I've met more than my fair share of people I would have zero time for, saying that, every friend I've met since 1991 and even my good lady, have come to me through a connection to bikes so in that respect I'm very thankful. :)

I did the whole club thing and it didn't really float me boat after a while, I'm not that sociable a person and the whole clique thing got boring, now I just go with the flow. If somebody is willing to stoop so low as to thump you over something trivial as a bike run, let them get on with it, it's their loss.

The"outlaw" scene, massive amounts of bike theft by other so called "bikers" and a tendancy towards violence and intimidation of anyone who didn't do things in a certain way, had other political views or who didn't show respect for this or that club.
It was a relief to move up here more than quarter of a century ago and start riding on my own or with one or two very carefully chosed friends.
Grumble, grumble...

Where did you live?

I've been riding bikes and been around motorcycles and bikey people for about the same amount of time, and can categorically state that your unfortunate experience could not be more different to mine.
I've had a great time for more than thirty years, bikes have been the mechanism by which I've met and become friends with most of the people I know.

when on a bike another biker in genral does act a bit nicer to you, but its all subjective
for example ive found winter riders are nicer to other fellow bikers who also winter ride compared to summer weekend warriors (yes there are telltail signs)
but take off your bike kit and that fellow biker will probably thing your a fecking bmw driver arrrrrggggghhhhhhh

You see, I think you've overestimated the diamond status of some people in biking because you have something in common with them. You've also probably underestimated the proportion of diamonds in the general population. I reckon it's nearer 20/60/20 across the whole population. After all, there will be people you know through any shared interest, who you only rub along with because of that interest. Out in the wild, you'd run them over as soon as look at them, but you've mentally put them in your 30% diamond group because they get the benefit of the doubt as fellow bikers.

Quedos, don't worry too much - all groups are the same. Wifey and I are in the process of organising out local Pony Club (don't laugh) Summer Show for the second year. To say that it can be a thankless task is putting it mildly. Getting any sort of commitments for helpers is always tricky and, no matter who you think you are keeping happy, there is always some moaning barsteward who doesn't approve.:smt063

Having done it, I tend to have a lot more respect for anyone else trying to organise a show/meeting/charity do - rather them than me! Keep your chin up and don't let the barstewards ground you down!
