Re: Insurance Hikes

I'd be interested to know how "limited" that mileage is? they don't seem to offer me a discount even when I ask about it, mind you my idea of limited is no doubt different to yours.

Cheers Mark.

Its the same with both my car and bike. The lower the declared milage, the lower the premium. Not huge amounts mind, but 10-15% ish lower.

I declare 2000 miles a year on my bike which is (mostly) accurate! and 9000 in my car which is, ahem, not quite so. :-dd

Seeing as the insurance company would find it difficult to prove either way I am reasonably comfortable with the risk of this.

I guess you have to assess the risk of lower premium versus getting caught out and invalidating your premium. :smt002

I know when I looked into the idea of limited mileage, you only qualified for discounts if you declared under 6000 miles.

Personally though, my insurance was lower in terms of premium and on a more valuable bike, so it looks like I've hit the lottery compared to the rest of you ;)

wow that's some self imposed restriction, for me that's 10-15 days riding, your mileage is recorded automatically on your MOT these days, so unless you disconnect your speedo it's going to be obvious if you go far over this, I would have thought ? most people would at least aim to keep their insurance as legal as they could, but even so you're talking £90 for 2,000 miles, that's £0.045 a mile, I pay £0.00.46 a mile and that's without any restriction at all, I guess just saving on initial cost is more important to some rather than actual savings.

Cheers Mark.
