As much as I'm confident to rag the Sv I don't want to jump onto a litre bike or something similar and scare the pants off myself. I'm trying to be sensible and upgrade without killing myself or my bank balance :) as yc says, rather ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow!

I get the slow bike fast thing but generally faster bikes will have better brakes, betters suspension and be better at speed so you can ride faster if you wish.

Just remember it's still the thing on your right handlebar that controls the speed not the size of the engine ;)

in this case (S4 to T5 comparison), suspension. brakes and speed are far from an issue, the 955i (or even the 1050) has no advantage, the bigger engine does make the gaining of higher speeds easier and maintaining them smoother it's true, but the penalty is greater core weight and more effort to quickly change direction, horses for courses I guess but coming from an SV (with presumably little or no experience on heavier bikes) the S4 would have a more familiar weight that the T5's, so perhaps a better choice at this time*.

Cheers Mark.

* I'm an advocate of the T5's and loved them, having been transported as far as Hungrey/Africa/Norway & Ireland on them, they have very few disadvantages which accounted for the 6 previous ones I had, when those few become a restriction on riding, then it's time to change.

Indeed that 955i motor is a peach. Definitely missed that when i changed to the SV650! Do i miss it now? Yes, but not as much as i initially did, fitting a viper can helped in that department. I used to commute on my sprint though heavy traffic and the 955 motor just as easy doing that as it is putting a grin on my face on the way to box hill at the weekend; as specialone said it's all in the wrist :D

Reeder >> I can recommend www.triumphrat.net if you need more info, good bunch of guys on their albeit primarily US and OZ riders, and looking over the posts you'll soon start to pick up if there are common problems.
