I heard Hein Gericke is taking over George White and rebranding as Woolworth's ...

The statement above has as much value as this thread at the minute. As someone above pointed out, these are their current vacancies - Current Job Vacancies: Darlington, Doncaster, Hanger Lane, Leicester, London, Newry, Purley, Southampton & Welling

In November their statement of capital was £1.8 million. So unless they've been havin a right Charlie everyday they should be alright.

I hope the position in Welling is for a new store manager :) ... that would bring back some customers back.

Oh for goodness sakes- you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. Was trying to give anyone a heads up,in case they spent money online and then lost it, hein gericke I'm so sorry if I've single handedly brought you to your knees!

I'd rather undermine consumer confidence than have someone lose a grand of their hard earned, if the rumours are true do you think the administrators will feel sorry for the public!?

The other forum I'm on, someone had had £300 odds taken from their account, online, then contacted a week later to say no goods in stock and they won't be getting anymore in. She investigated, and according to distance selling regs or something they cannot debit your account till goods at or nearly dispatched, she spent two days on the phone trying to sort this and hasn't had her refund yet. Smacks of bad practice to me, and since I wanted to give people a heads up I decided to share.

Love hein gericke myself most of my gear is from them, and will be sad if they close, but their behaviour has been weird recently.

Lack of consumer confidence is something we're all hearing a lot of recently as an impediment to economic recovery and if this is not true, it may well cause administration due to people taking business elsewhere.

In that case... Have you heard HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Packard Bell, Fujitsu, Sony and Lenovo are all going into bankruptcy? :D

If anyone's spending significant money online and not using a credit card, they're asking for trouble. And if they are using a credit card, they're not going to lose their money.

So the right thing to say, if anything, would be "if you're going to order online from HG, use a credit card, not a debit card". You still get to spread the rumour, but you get to throw a bit of consumer advice in there to take the edge off it. Everyone's a winner!

Well its not true, HG is not in administration so its nothing to worry about...

I don't want to "spread a rumour" or "be a winner"- just passing on information I had been party to. I'd hope people would use a credit card but I know not everyone has one, especially in this climate. Shame if they lost out, I think.
