I recently passed my cage test,
As for the theory I booked it late on Thursday night and then sat it on the Saturday.
Got 1 question wrong 49/50

Simlar with the bike one a few years back but cant remember the score for that one.
Its not hard at all, 99% of it is common sense given the multiple choice answers.

I'm going to be controversial here.... but if you can't pass the multi-guess part of the test then you really shouldn't be allowed out on your own walking, let alone in command of a powered vehicle....

The hazard perception part is a bit nastier, especially if you are an experienced driver/rider as there's a tendency to click for the hazard BEFORE the computer is ready for you. However for a new rider/driver it's a reasonable starting point to get you thinking a bit....

Driving/riding isn't a right and unless you can jump through the required hoops, then sorry, but you can't have a license. The tests are only tests and if you can pass them then you meet the required MINIMUM standard to hold that license. The number of local teenagers parking their small hatchbacks in trees around here only demonstrates how inadaquate the system is in terms of preparing learners for the real world. The tuition to pass the bike test gives no real training in real world situations, you get to learn to ride around town and that's about it....

The hazard perception part was the part i struggled with As said above i was always reacting to a hazard before the computer thought i should and i certainly hink it should be ajusted for the motorbike hazard perception

1100 miles over past 4 days isn't half making me a miserable bugger.

A fair proportion of the driving public need to have a highway code inserted somewhere painful, perhaps it would cure some of the idiots of the inability to judge closing speeds, gaps and distances. And a modicum of perception wouldn't go amiss either.

your opinion is yours but that dont give you a right to be a :shaking2: when iv just passed my theory, I myself dislike the theory multi-choice test as there are over a 1000 different questions surely you cant say you know them all.. what if the off chance you had 10 you didnt know and then 5 trick questions? :tongue: ... you failed therefore you don't deserve a license.

& for your concern my first year of on road experience was 8000miles and i travelled up and down the country, safely... kind regards Kingy

Hater...... somewhat dramatic interpretation..... but, if that's how you see it.... fair enough... I'll live...

Yes there are over 1000 questions, but they're divided into sections, if I remember correctly there should be a number of questions from each section so that you don't end up taking a test that is just identifying 50 road signs.

The vast majority of the questions are common sense, and really if you can't work those out for yourself then you're a likely to be up for a darwin award at some point - as an example...

"The red lights are flashing. What should you do when approaching this level crossing?"

A - Go through quickly
B - Go through carefully
C - Stop before the barrier
D - Switch on hazard warning lights

There are some "hard fact" questions, the things that I recall having to force into memory were, tread depths, motorway coloured lane markers and road signs relating to trams...

There are still the official DVLA books and DVDs with all of the questions in, they were the best preparation I could find when I did my theory test, I went through ALL of the questions, laughed at 98% of them and found where the gaps in my knowledge were, I'd had a car driving license for 12(ish) years at this point and yes there were some gaps, so I'm not claiming to be perfect!

In terms of perfection, I got 50/50 when I took my theory test and then failed my first attempt at the practical test but passed that second time around....

Regarding your first years on road experience - well done! May you have many more like it.

P.S. Sorry, couldn't find any theory test questions about dragons, even in the welsh version.

I agree multiple choice questions such as in the theory test are easy and I too cannot understand how youngsters find them difficult.

They should try the sort of multiple choice that exists in some exams where the candidate has to decide if an assertion and reason are true/false and if both are true does the reason explain the assertion.

Example using the above level crossing question could be

So the simple example level crossing above would then require 4 answers from from possible 5 combinations.

True, true and reason explains assertion
True, false and reason does not explain assertion
True, false
False, true
False, false.

This then stops people winging it with the two are definitely wrong and then best bet from the other two. You start to having to know your subject.
