A test ride on the SV is hardly fair (especially the S version), unless they loan to you for a month, it takes that long for your body to strengthen up to the riding position.

I can't say I find it particularly extreme, the hard seat is the only thing causing me problems now.

Unless Saffen has a huge gut to rest on the tank, thereby taking some of the strain................

Actually, I don't think the SV650S is as extreme as some bikes and the K4/5 has lower pegs than the K3 wich probably helps a bit.

No-one has mentioned the SV's seat height yet............... another important consideration for a newbie to take into account IMHO.

The thought never even crossed my mind. I can put my feet down flat on alot of supermotos.

I started out after my das with a gpz500... seat height and bike weight were the important factors for me and the fact it was one of the few 500s with fairing and looked good swayed me...

after about 8 months started to outgrow it so was looking at a 600... at that time i was in oz and only knew the kawasaki/honda dealer in canberra so had a test ride lined up for a cbr6 and a zzr6...

then someone told me where the suzuki/yamaha dealer was so thought go look at a bandit6 or a fazer... got there and the only 600 engines they had at the time were the svs....

sat on the sv... on tip toes but thought thats ok... it was the weight of the bike that bothered me but realised I thought that about the gpz for about a month til i got used to it... so...

test ride... back to shop... rode home on it!!

split up with partner in oz so visa ran out back to uk first thing I got... another SV....

the sv is perfect for me... it may not be for you... everyones different... but unless you go sit on one and get an idea of seat height/weight of bike and other stuff, or test ride it your not going to know whats right for you...

You can pick-up ex-demo used ones for around £4

Just make sure that your looking at the CB600F (i.e. Hornet) and not the emasculated CBF600 (which is both heavier and less powerful).

Nowt wrong with an SV though, if it suits you.

if you test ride the sv... be careful at slow speed of the front brake.. if its like mine its quite sharp and the front drops a bit...

dropped my first sv on a u turn when i hit the brake and was surprised by how sharp it was...

but im a disaster always happening so....

Hi Saffen welcome to the site.

I ended up with a bandit because I was looking for a modern bike as opposed to my little old classic guzzi V50, (wouldnt go, wouldnt stop - very ancient!!)

I struggled with the weight of the bandit (might be something to do with being female)and the revs - theyre very high revving, but I learned alot on it. But I missed the v twin and got myself the sv couple of months ago - I havent looked back - much lighter, much more torquey, (takes a while to get used to) and IMO much more nimble and much more character .

Everybody has different preferances in a bike and I dont think you really know til you try them. Good luck with whatever you chose :D

Well done with the dreaded DAS btw
