But I've had problem since fitting the fenser extender nearly 2 years ago so buy one they aint that dear and if it stops front cylinder blues its worth every penny.

My bike has grown gills and my boots are flippers I've seen so much rain. But not a problem. Ever. I reckon you lot are making all this up or you polish your bikes too much and have worn away the protective coating of crud

No problems in the two years from owning it to chucking it down the road on wednesday, I have a fenda extender but it is still on the side in the garage

Compare that to the price of the extendas- and it's actually more effective as well as invisible (my front plug still rusted up with the extenda, with the grease it's pristine after 3000 miles)

Not to say there's not good arguments for the extenda- it does help keep rubbish off the front of your bike, which is definately worthy for a winter machine.

Hey Northwind, sounds like a good idea, i don't like the look of a fender extender, what do you have to do? take the plug out and grease around it, or just grease around where the ht lead meets the cylinder head?

northwind 09-12-05 06:48 PM

I pull thelead out a little and grease the seal and the edge of the head, where the seal will sit... Probably not neccesary to do both really. It's theoretically possible to do it without moving the radiator, but it'll cost you skin... I think some people apply grease to the plug head, which might make more sense, but I'm nothing if not blinkered so I do it my way :)

I had problem with first sv back in 2000 from new, fitted fenda and stopped problem, when got second sv, "99 model, I just fitted one as the norm and went through two winters with no problem.
I did also grease round front plug as well, no point leaving things to chance now is there. :D

Had a few problems when I had a curvy 650 since having the SV 1000 not noticed any problems.
Does this problem mainly occur on the older bikes.

splund 12-12-05 01:33 PM

I have a K4 pointy with a lower fairing and living on the wet west coast of Scotland and have never encountered this problem. I don't have a feneder extender but my bike does have a small black rubber flap hanging down in front of the front cylinder. Its about 4inches wide and hangs down 2 inches, .

This is clearly there for a reason, which I suspect is to protect the spark plug from road spray. Do any of you have this thing on your bike and are you having the problem?
