Rather some joke cartoons that make fun of religious subjects than the outrage and brutality that many perform in the name of religion. 8)

Im sure that regardless of what religion is being ripped on there would be freaks who get all up in arms about it. You get the same sort of nonsense here in the US with people burning flags. I would predict exactly the same sort of outrage and some of these christian freaks saw Al Jazera (?) making fun of Christ or something.

The *difference* is, no one in the media would really care very much, the media wouldnt be that interested in this sort of rubbish, and the protest would die off. If however, there was a massive influx of cameras, and the media zooms in and tries to enflame and encourage the freaks, who lets face it dont need much encouragement, a similar sort of thing could happen.

Its also compounded by the fact that a lot of Arabs (rightly IMO) believe that they are being demonised and abused in general. The extremists see this as *yet* another *personal* dig on them, and get ****ed off.
Say I felt that the worlds media was ripping the **** out of Irish people for ages, and then the BBC produces these cartoons when we are already a bit sensitive and a bit sick of having US bombers emptying their planes on us, I could imagine that there would be elements in Irish society that would be ****ed off.

I am not saying that I agree with the whole business. But, especially with respect to the US, its a case of Mister Pot... meet Mister Kettle etc.

I'm sure it wasn't your intention, but this suggests that every muslim who finds this offensive is a violent extremist.

Yes your correct, that was not my intention.
Its ok saying freedom of speech, but the guy who drew must have known that it would upset people.

I just think its foolish to provoke fundamentalist nutters (who are not reprasentative of the islamic faith as a whole).
There was a journalist a few years ago who was reporting on a beauty contest, she made an remark about any of these girls would be good enough to Mohhamed's bride
(or somthing similar).

She now has to live in hiding because there is fatwar against her.

Alas, not. It's true.

I cannot believe that the furore over this has grown to the point that Kofy Anan has made a humbled apology to try and appease the protestors! This really is sensitivity gone mad.

Maybe they should take a look at some photographs not cartoons of the misery and devastation caused by many followers of their faith? They object to cartoons when they are happy to film and screen the beheading of an innocent person?(Oh I know we westerners are also to blame for some terrible deeds also, but I would argue that the western forces never purposefully target innocent individuals)

Let's take a look at Palestine right now...someone give me a good argument please as to why what is going on there is correct?

WB me - sad, I know!

It's a tad hypocritical when the muslims burn the Danish Flag which has the cross relating to cristianity. I thought the purpose of their demonstration was to seek respect for their beliefs?

Also, the muslim have been known to mock jews for their beliefs. What's going on???
