If you do claim from the drivers insurance for injuries, don't forget to mention that you've been unable to complete your PPL - they take all this type of stuff into account when deciding on an injury claim.
When I had my car accident many many years ago, they took into account that I couldn't horse ride, as it was to do with quality of life or something, and this upped the compenstation claim.
And keep all public transport receipts to claim with.

Oh yes, and of course heal quick - hope the thumb will be ok to ride after.

Sorry to hear this but glad your alright and came out not too bad. Totally agree with you on the open faced helmet thing and glad you were wearing the right kit.

The bike does look a bit cained, can always combine our bikes into some kind of mashed up monster

Ouch, I would be surprised that his insurance co thinks it's your fault, he has probably told them all kind of things. If you have two witnesses then I would be surprised if it went against you. Good luck and get well soon.

sorry to hear this but at least it sounds like it could have been worse.

As others have said, it doesn't sound like your fault and you should claim from him.

I had a similar experience about 10 years ago. Car pulled across me and I braked too hard so the bike slid down the road (and if I hadn't then I would have been embedded in his bonnet).

Not to sound too mercenary but back then a slightly sprained wrist and a couple of spare parts for an MZ250 was worth £3k. I'd have thought a broken thumb, new helmet and a written off SV would be worth considerably more.

Chatting to my father inlaw who used to be a mechanic and is a bike nut. we've decided to buy the SV back off the ins company when it's all sorted and do it up as a track day bike. Can do all the work ourselves and he can spray bikes and cars.

Does anyone know how you go about doing this or will the ins company offer it to me first?
