I use front brake with my fingers and "palm and thumb" on the throttle.

When you can only reach the ground with the tips of your toes you find that the less time you spend on one foot, the better. Using the front 'til the last second means I can have both toes down for stability.

I use the back, but the front works fine too... It's easy enough to balance the bike on the clutch alone if you need to.

If you find yourself stuck at lights on a hill just gently roll the bike back until the rear wheel is resting on the car behind you (all car drivers are aware that this is the correct manouver and will wave cheerily to show you their support). You can now pull away as normal without the Hendon shuffle

And they even toot-toot you to show encouragement. . |

The lads from the club used to all just lean on cars at lights, cause we didnt want to unclip from the pedals, and we were too lazy to balance the bike. I never thought about it, but, I suppose if you are sitting in your cage, and suddenly 8 lads would descend on you... you might be annoyed. |
Trying to hold the bike with just the front brake on a very steep hill in the rain can result in you sliding backwards,at which stage you panic and tend to put both feet down for stability,if this happens you have no choice but to do the shuffle Where as holding it on the back brake the bikes and your weight is being forced onto the back wheel and is a lot less likely to slide Just take your time and try and be in the gear you want before you come to a stop
