Basically, you need to do what is best for you.

If your practical need is such you need a secure top box then thats whats best for you.

For me, practicality takes precedence over aesthetics with my bike. When I get a second bike, the rail will come off the SV. But until then, it stays. :D

She's right, and without misquoting this time.

I'll step up and say I've thought about the "top box bolted to a spare back seat" myself, just couldn't spare the dosh to do it, so until then it'll be soft luggage bungee'd on the back seat for me.

I have still been looking for a Topbox....

Does anyone know if the Top Case adaptor mounting plate sold by Suzuki will fit a Givi box or any other box?

http://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/access.asp?m=23&s=&x=40&y=20

Not to keen on the official suzuki topbox so am wondering what other boxes fit the mounting plate or if any other makes do similiar styles of mounting.

Someone recommended alurack but could not find anything close to the above.

Any views?

Cheers

A top box has been great for commuting for me, you pack your day clothes in the house with all the other stuff you need that day and it just clips on the bike, no key or tools. Get to work and the key pops it off to carry up to the office like a little suitcase.

You can even leave it off for weekend posing and blasting, no fuss.

I use my bike everyday for work / Uni so the box was practically a necessity.

I've got the Kappa monorack which fits onto the grabrail at the back so i don't really understand why you'd need a spare rear seat as some people are suggesting (unless i've mis-understood what they mean or it's a different model).

Once you've got that on (costs about £70 from Hein Gericke) you can get either a monokey or monolock box (my 46l one was approx £90) from pretty much anywhere that will fit onto that. (bear in mind you need a monokey plate on the rack for a monokey box and vice-versa for the monolock)

My box is a life saver, tried walking round uni all day carting my gear and work and it was a real pain in the backside. When i can afford a second bike for weekend fun or whatever then i'll stop putting boxes on my bikes, until that day a box is the only way for me!

People are suggesting you use a spare rear seat instead of getting the monorack- just bolting the topbox foot straight onto the seat. Means there's no ironmongery left behind if you decide not to use the box.

I'm looking at getting a topbox to carry laptop , found this site
http://www.motorbikesandparts.co.uk/index.htm

Monorack + Fitting Kit for Givi/Kappa Top Boxes for £69
Kappa K35 tbox £49
free delivery

All in £ 118

Not sure if this is good price as only started looking ..

I don't clean my bike much as it's my only transport / wear a police hi-vis jacket so think I can live with the shame of a topbox !

Cheers Steve
