Can't see that working to a great degree, there's alot more to engine characteristics than a simple fuel map.

I doubt it's done with the fueling - maybe with the variable exhaust valving (whatever kwak call their version of EXUP)?

does rather suggest that in the full power map that there's a mid-range flat-spot/hole waiting to be filled with an aftermarket re-map.

The K6 has a Yammy type exhaust thingy valve. I'll be interesting to see what the real life experience of this switch is. Lots of variables to play with , fuel, timing and exhaust and not to forget the inlet secondary butterflies. This could be interesting.

Hold on....186bhp?

 Jesus. Stock Gixxer thous come out of the box that quick? Bloody hell. Sorry, I just didn't realise.

Oh yeah. limiter. Emm, I would sort of have to use it to see. My first reaction is that it might not be that bad an idea, if its very wet etc. But, like Fiz said, shouldnt you just be used to your bike? Just drive it accordingly?

If the bike is changing its characteristics all the time... wouldnt this be worse for your driving? I mean, if you got used to cracking on a bit on the apex of a bend, and you forgot that you had switched into super animal mode, and then the back spins up etc.

Useful or just a gimmick ?, discus

Gimmick.

Common, 186 bhp, 156 bhp  . Are they seriously saying that 156 bhp would really be of great help say you are riding in dodgy conditions. Heck plenty of pancies :P  riding Gixer Thous with whatever bhp it has at the moment that are probably not even using 120 bhp.

If it were tractiion control then that'll be a different matter.

If I understood it right, it also softens the power delivery as much as reducing the actual power... Which I reckon is a better idea for the job it's designed for.

I like the idea of turning it down on a trackday, so that if anyone outruns you you can say "Ah, but I had it on 120bhp mode" :)

Bikes are all getting to a point where they're really powerful and as light as they're going to get without new materials to weigh even less.
So selling points will have to be technical gubbins. The switchable map thing is a gimmick that they already use for MotoGP. Adding it to a new model becomes a talking pointy in the comics and on teh web. Drat we fell for their dastardly plan...

I think thats the main aim for this, trackdays, so you can take it on a wet trackday and still crack the throttle open much like race bikes now. I think for the road its a gimmick. Though if you could customise this for your own benefit that would be great. One for all out power, one for fuel efficiency and one for wet conditions

No it wouldnt, because I'd turn that off as well :D

Every car I've driven with traction control on it, I've turned it off. It for me limits the amount of feel I get from the car, I like to feel the limit of the car and I can't do this if the bl**dy car keeps electronically interfering with what I'm doing.

Again IMHO ride to the road conditions, dont rely on electronics to get your out of a mess, don't get yourself into a mess in the first place.

Give me a bike I can ride that gives good feel and feedback so I can feel what the bike is doing and I'll do the rest.

Look at Nori Haga, Yamaha have traction control in WSB for the R1, what does he do. Turn it off and he still wins races, we dont need all this electronic b*ll*x on bikes IMHO. Its not something I've asked for and its not something I want.

Pure gimmick - only good for 1 thing . . .

. . . pub 'BLAH' !!

Total waste of time, effort & money in my opinion.

Suzuki, if they wanted to offer a multi-map option, would have been far better off fitting a Power Commander type bit of kit that allows re-mapping of engine / fuel characteristics whilst on the move (rather than just pure BHP / Torque) imagine it - being able to flick between maps for fast A roads with sweeping turns; B road twisties, & constant throttle motorway type scenarios - far better idea (IMHO) but probably not as much 'BLAH' factor to impress people with down the pub !!
