You probably already have... but just make sure you enable all the repositories. Multiverse etc in synaptic.

Glad it's working for ya. Google automatix to easily install lots of useful programs and codecs. Loads of support on the ubuntu forums. I imagine you've found them but the address is http://ubuntuforums.org
www.psychocats.net was also enormously helpful to me when I first started playing with ubuntu and linux generally.

load up Synaptic
Settings -> Repositories -> and then tick them all off, community, multiverse, universe, etc etc.

oh right - they're all ticked :)

got hotmail working so i'm now off to find a way for my NAT issue.......sthing tells me it won't be easy
