Re: Number-plate-spray-avoid-speed-cameras
Great idea but if you get caught using this you get hammered by the courts-no fixed penalty-they look on this as you intentionally trying to evade lawful prosecution .

May I recommend
HTML Code:
http://sprayonmud.us/index.html Now I use the real stuff... country lanes and a tail-tidy are the easiest recipe for a filthy numberplate, but for those in the town, try that ^^ :smt043 |
Re: Number-plate-spray-avoid-speed-cameras
Hi.
I remember seeing loads of infomation some time ago about plates and sprays such as this to blind the camera. The computers can now split the picture into different colour channels and mess with contrast ratios and also look at light at the shorter and longer wavelengths. All this techy stuff can reveal your reg number even though it may appear invisible on a standard picture. I wish I could remember where I saw it, there was loads of info. I think it may have something to do with later models of camera that also use light beyond the standard visible spectrum. Based on what I remember, I wouldn't spend my money on this. Tim. |
Re: Number-plate-spray-avoid-speed-cameras
I've visited the "processing lab" in Cardiff. They take it as a challenge if the plate is difficult to see, adjusting the contrast/brightness they can make out the number.
You'd be better off taking the plate off, ensuring the contact area where it is fixed remains clean thus you can claim "it must have just fallen off, Officer". |
Re: Number-plate-spray-avoid-speed-cameras
They did some tests on this in Mythbusters on the telebox the other day. None of the sprays or covers they tried could hide the numberplate from speed cameras whilst leaving it visible normally.

Re: Number-plate-spray-avoid-speed-cameras
I've seen a couple of cars with really strange plates. From a slight angle the plate letters look like they are smudged into a black mess but from directly behind you can read them!? Dunno if it works like these hologrammes you get in cornflakes packets or what?
Of course whilst they won't be picked up by cameras a copper could see that you have a funny plate so will nick you. |
Re: Number-plate-spray-avoid-speed-cameras
Hovi, make sure the spray isn't coloured, or maybe your plate won't be so yellow anymore...

Re: Number-plate-spray-avoid-speed-cameras
Am with Viney on this. Why is all this subterfuge necessary - you can easily spot a fixed camera and if not then there must be something wrong. Slow down and it won't happen.
