Re: Shocking Insurance

£217 last October for a born again biker. 12 years away from biking. held full licence for 20 years (started at 14 in Guernsey where you can ride upto 100cc at 14 and anything at 16.) That was the cheapest I could find and included breakdown cover. Considering my car insurance is £260 on a polo 1.4 tdi (dunno what group it is) I was amazed! loking forward to the renewal this year :)

Even if they started at 17, the insurer may of been generous & given 2 years no-claims one year as a bonus/incentive to stay with them.

To have 7years NCB & be paying £140 for TPFT is frankly ridiculous though IMO!!

Correct Baph.

Insurance and NCB started when I got a moped.

I forgot to mention I do have a claim to my name (in my car) though. :smt103

Plus it does include the aftermarket parts (fairings, solo seat, end can).

i didn't think you could transfer a 50cc/16yr old ncb? But I don't know much :( great position to be in at 23 though! Do any insurers do combined car/bike policies?

I haven't come across any that do, but I remember the AA would take in to account if you had any 2 wheeled experience.

The insurance companies can pretty much offer anything price they want. They normally justify this though applying 'discounts' the common one being NCB.

I can't see you getting 65% off your 1st years costs Baph, but if you do let me know who you're with as you'll be paying less than me!

I fell over when they quoted 312 quids on two Sv's fully comp on three years no claims. Im indoors said I had more jam than hartleys, my reply...no I'm old and a bird

I'd be interested to hear the renewal quote too! I thought my first year's no claims discount would be aobut 30-40% (similar to a car) but it seems like it was only worth 15% with the insurers I tried! Kinda shows they control it via the premiums but make you think you have control, when they were still the cheapest...!

For those that have expressed an interest, I've just tried "Go Compare" for bike insurance.

Apparently Motorcycle Direct are the cheapest (according to Go Compare) for me, at £186/year FC. I haven't looked further into the policy though.

Go Compare does look quite decent actually.

Coor blimey. That's less than I'm paying and I have an older bike and more NCB. Must be one hell of a postcode you've got Baph.
