Re: Transformers Rocks!

I watched it at face value and thought it was a great film - so what if its cheesy! Its meant to be a bit tongue in cheek!

Talk about being hoisted by ones own petard....

After months of nagging by friends/colleagues/that itch at the back of my brain, I've decided to attempt a sci-fi/cyber punk novel...or poss novella...or maybe short story.

Done the intro over the last week (5000 words) but ahem the plot slightly revolves around, ahem Nerdy boy fancies cool chick that's hanging out with the cool boys but in the end he wins her over & saves the world.

Sorry for the derail...I better amend my opinion of Transformers. Blast!

Optimus Prime can transform from a truck into a robot.
Then I wonder why can't they transform a bad film into a good?

Re: Transformers Rocks!

Yes it is long, yes it's cheesy, yes it's fairly generic and if you're being critical you can find hole after hole in the plot (that little decepticon heals himself with the all-spark, the small version can still give life to inanimate objects like the vending machine, but Bumblebee can't heal himself with it? megatron crash lands, freezing temperatures prevent him from functioning? They were able to move him from the Antarctic to Grand Canyon without ever "defrosting" him? etc etc).

But it's good fun, light-hearted, and a fantastically well put together spectacle.

I appreciate the finer films, and "oscar winning acting", but I don't go to watch a film just to judge it against all the other films I've ever seen. When I watch a film, I treat it like it's the first film I've ever seen, and if I'm entertained, then it's a good film as far I am concerned.

Well, i went to see it a few days ago, and the minute Optimus Prime came onto the screen & transformed, I felt about 8 yrs old again!

It has to be said, I hate Michael Bay as a director - some of his output is so bad that they should be classed as crimes against humanity! Bad Boys 2 FFS?!?

I'll grant him a stay of execution for putting a big stupid grin on my face with Transformers though :D
