I can remember one time, not long after I had got my licence:
I was on my way to Shrewsbury on my own, it was in the winter, dark, raining and it was the longest journey i'd ever done on my own (only 88 miles or so).

I was having to follow all road signs to get there as I didn't know the route or roads.
I came to one roadsign (one of the big green ones) to see which turn off I needed to take, this particular roadsign was right infront of a major set of traffic lights.
Anyway, as I was concentrating on which turnoff to take the lights changed to red (sods law) as the road was wet and on a slight downward slope (and probably soaked with oil/diesel) my wheels locked and I overshot the redlight by about 6ft.

If, there would of been a redlight camera there and the new proposed law that Wideboy mentioned was in place then it would of been bye bye licence and social life.
All due to a poorly placed road-sign and crappy road surface.

Like Wideboy said, people do need room for error, we're not machines.
It's surprising how poorly some roadsigns are placed, I've even seen illuminated advertising boards plonked right in front of traffic lights.

But the lad with 36 speeding tickets was clearly taking the Michael, putting two fingers up when being snapped by the camera etc, he knew exactley what he was doing.

not to say i purposely speed

The bit I saw (on teletex) was 6 points for refusing to name the driver not for the speeding offence.

When your CBT certificate runs out, you can immediatley just pop down to your local training place, do a couple of hours training and be on your merry way again.
When I was doing my DAS I spoke to a few people doing just that, and you can do it as many times as you like.

Yeah, I know you can do that now, but I'm pretty sure this is a law change and there was a time limit on it back in 1991/92 ish when I was learning. CBT was just a new thing if I remember right too. I remember my mates having to get lessons and stuff to get their tests done so that they weren't forced off the road for a year. No 33hp, age 21 DAS, theory test or anything like that then either. Anybody else remember this or am I getting dimensia?

As for the 16mph bit, it's not the end of the world, but sounds like this guy rode round and round setting off the cameras for fun, just to test the system and see if his "a moped cant do more han 30" excuse would hold up

I think the fines are means tested... Not 100% on that but I remember a mate of mine lying about his income, and getting caught out, and getting destroyed for it  It makes sense, there's no set fine that'd be a deterrant for everyone.

I agree, a set fine would probably work wonders.
I mean, these days if you're caught driving/riding without insurance your vehicle is taken from you and quite possibly crushed, I think the same applys to road-tax evasion, though i'm not 100% sure on that.

The Kid is undoubtably a tit but there are worse things he can do than lap a block or two. A 'Ped doing more than 30 aint exactly shock horror..

He's lost his license...which is pretty major. I'd not say no to giving out a decent speeding fine but make it payable through community service or something - after all he should have more time on his hands now...

His speed isn't the issue, the issue is he went through '36' speed cameras in 2 months, each time knowing 'exactley' what he was doing.

Not really, next year he'll re-apply for another prov licence, do his theory, CBT and off he goes again.
Granted, getting insured again may be a toughie, if he bothers...

I used to ride a moped myself mate when I was in my teens, a bright yellow Honda Melody, oh how I was mocked lol.

I don't want people to think I have a grudge againsed all moped riders, most of them just use them as cheap means of commuting or are building up to a bigger bike etc.

What does tick me off, are the ones who think they're above everyone else and the law, also how lightly they get off and how easy it is for them to get back on the road.

WHy was someone (on page one) making the point that he was uninsured beacuse the ped was derestricted?

He was 17 so perfectly within his rights to derestrict it should he so chose
