The upside to someone though is that the spot is confirmed, so it's up for grabs to anyone lurking. I suspect from what I heard when I called that the whole day may be cancelled anyway, but I'm open to being contacted if anyone fancies it.

Wonder what happens when they cancel it. Money back I suppose, be difficult to give you another date.
It might be OK looking at the weather forcecasts

Re: Oulton park 6th february Novice

What the guy said to me was that they'd give you a credit against a future date if they had to cancel it, but (at this point in time, being within 14 days of the date) if you cancelled, you'd lose out.

I'm definitely out of this one, so I'm now going to be selfish and hope for a cancellation :p

Sorry to hear about your off Orose.

I'm not a wimp and don't mind riding in the wet and cold, but I do kinda hope this gets cancelled now. By the looks of the weather report it may by under snow on Friday anyway :-(

Just spoke to Motorsport Vision. At the moment it is still on, and they won't be making a final decision until Friday morning. If it isn't too bad he said they have ways and means of clearing the track.

So, all being well we're going down Friday night in the van to be all ready bright and very blummin breezy Friday morning.

Brrrr.

The last Oulton Park we did a couple of months back, they gritted the track .
We didn't realised they did that to race tracks till the chains started to rust & all of the aluminium parts started to fur up, Get ready with the ACF ;)

omigod
I am already acf'd. So's the shed floor, the drive, the cat, half the terriers and me.
I've even got some on the bike.
I am up to my eyes in work and have been sort of half praying for a cancellation.
How bad can it be?
Track day in the sleet on a gritted track?
Are you allowed waterproofs over your leathers?
Are we allowed bonfires?

Assuming this is still on. How far do people go with prepping the bike?
So far I think i'll take the tail tidy off complete with indicators and plate. Front indicators & mirrors off. Headlight fuse out (wherever that is..). Tape over the headlights and the holes left in the fairing.
Also bring tools, flask and butties?
And a trailer and a brush and dustpan?

May be worth removing your headlight too.

Preperation? hmmm, yeah. Good plan..... that'll be tomorrow morning then.

If its on and you are going, the best piece of advice I can give you is to get the tyres warm before you go banzai.

I've raced at Oulton when there was still frost on the ground. You just need to be gentle with everything, gentle on the brakes, gentle on the turn in etc.

Your confidence will grow pretty quickly provided that you let the tyres get some heat. Dont be intimidated by anybody, go at your own pace and enjoy.

Re: Oulton park 6th february Novice

It is cancelled !!

Just received the following email:

Thank you for booking your trackday with us for tomorrow at Oulton Park.

We’re sorry to say that due to adverse weather conditions, we have had to cancel tomorrow’s event. Safety is our number one priority and although every effort has been made to try to ensure that the circuit was ready, the weather is not looking good for the next 24 hours and has therefore it has beaten us this time. Attached are some photos taken at the circuit earlier today.

Normally in this situation, you would be offered a credit of whatever you have paid towards another trackday with us in the next three months. However, our next bike trackday at Oulton Park is on Tuesday 7th April and the price is £129. I understand that this is a significant increase from the price you have paid and therefore we will extend your credit to be applicable for any trackday in the next 12 months. This means that it can then be redeemed against another Oulton Park trackday in the late part of this year which should be of a similar price to this event. Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds under any circumstances.

Alternatively, the following options are also available to you:
  • We have a trackday at Brands Hatch on Tuesday 24th February – the price is £75 and therefore an additional £16 would need to be paid.
  • For the novices amongst you (if you have completed less than 3 trackdays before), we have a Novice only day at Snetterton on Sunday 1st March – the price for this event is also £75 (again, an additional £16 would need to be paid)
  • We will also be adding a number of events over the coming weeks – keep an eye on the website (www.clubmsv.co.uk) for details.

Once you have found the event that you would like to redeem your credit against, please call us on 0870 850 5013 and we’ll be happy to get you booked in.

Hopefully see you at another trackday (with some sunshine) soon!

Kind regards,

Jason Kluger

damn, thats unlucky. mind you it was intended as a novice day wasnt it so probably a good call.

The last thing you need when dipping your toe into the trackday experience is snow!

Bah!
Might wait until the dry weather to rebook methinks.

I don't think it was a novice day, just a standard split sessions day. Can't argue with the wish for better weather though

Yeah, you're right. The linky at the start of the thread was for the novice session on the site, there must be another link for the int/advanced. No offence intended :)

Re: Oulton park 6th february Novice

I don't personally see the problem

Let the tyres down a bit, it'd be fine :smt083 I think I can even see a dry line forming.

These pics were attatched to the email earlier.......

i'm rather dubious to their statement that they can't/won't give any refunds at all. to me they are not providing the service they said they would be, irrespective of what the weather conditions are. this is not any of your fault and to my mind isn't in line with trading standards. i'd be pushing for a refund and use the money whenever you feel like it!

flymo 06-02-09 02:13 PM

Re: Oulton park 6th february Novice

where there any details in the terms and conditions when you booked covering weather conditions?

phil24_7 06-02-09 04:04 PM

Re: Oulton park 6th february Novice

There are always those terms and conditions for track days. It is not their fault either so by giving you a credit note they have put you both back to the positions you were before. You had spent a certain amount of money with them for a track day, and that is still in the bank to use with them in the future.

It all seem pretty fair to me.

I'm good with it regardless of any legal position.
I'll try again in May i think :)
