Having done it twice, it's not as much fun as you might think, on one we averaged just over 45 mph and that took 18 hours (or near enough), the other was done with an overnight (Rat run), loads of arranged stops and people to meet us, which was much more civilized.

If you're doing numbers, organization & planning is critical, remember most riders aren't used to anything like 500 mile in a day and I wouldn't go with anyone who hadn't done at least that several times, It's one of those things that sounds fun and looks simple, but if (for example) you were to not use motorways you can add about 100 miles more or so and maybe 5 hours.

Just try it, go out and do 500 miles, then do it the following day again?

If you wanted a gimmick what about a UK "iron butt" something like, London to Edinburgh, Glasgow down to Blackpool, Exeter and back to London in 24 hours, that's about 1,000 miles, now that would be a challenge.

Oh definately, me too. Would have liked it to be one of those things I do before I turn 30 but as thats only a month away it'll have to be before I'm pushing up the daisies;-)

Actually, come to think of it ... me and charity runs aren't a good combination ...

Me and 2 work colleagues participated in a charity "jail break". Only instead of getting furthest away from our start location (Deeside, North Wales), we decided to visit all 20 FA Premiership football grounds in 24 hours and RETURN to Deeside. I drove Deeside to Southampton, mate Mike drove Southampton to Ipswich (Dave pinched a Metropolitan Police traffic cone from the route of the London Marathon, which was scheduled to take place the next day, and being a ManU fan took gr8 delight in urinating up the wall of Highbury!), and then mate Dave drove Ipswich to Newcastle, and I took over again and drove Newcastle back to Deeside. I have no idea how many miles we covered, but we returned to Deeside exactly 24 hours (to the minute!) after setting off. Only thing was, we got lost coming out of Newcastle (pre sat-nav days, we only had printed multimap maps) and fell foul of a speed trap ... 47 in a 30 (I thought we were still in a 50 zone but in looking for direction signs we completely missed the 30 speed-limit signs :( I was driving ... 3pts + £60 fine (we shared the fine between us, but I had to take the 3 pts) - they are now OFF my licence thankfully (that and Ipswich being in the Premiership should give you some idea it was several years ago now ;-) LOL)

i'm doing this on june 21st with a group from the xrv forum, we are going to register with the british "ironbutt" people and do it in a day. the idea being to raise money for charity ( for me thats for my enduro africa 2008 sponsership!) go on to the xrv.org.uk forum, in the charity forum and take a look!
