Generally I tend to do the bolt up to what I think is correct, given what the this is expected to do, amount of stress on it, then check the torque setting, if it's close I'll leave it a little below and check it over the next few 100 miles or so, but if it's a mile away, then either the book is wrong and needs checking or the bolt needs to be replaced. Re: soho-fri 8/2/08
It was a new nut and bolt! I guess the only way to tell is do it with a torque wrench when I get replacement bits. It was strange though how it just seemed to turn and turn and turn and then pop.

always the possibility it was faulty then unusual I'll grant you but still possible. Cheers Mark. |
Re: soho-fri 8/2/08
Tell you what I did think the nut looked a bit egg shaped but it went on fine initially. I've seen some funny nuts in my time! I've seen funny screws with odd threads and I think I even had a nut without a thread once. They're going back anyway and I won't fit the new ones without a torque wrench.
Back to the Soho Friday meet thread.... |

While there I will also be using the time to look at my bike, so don't be surprised if the tank and stuff is up... Should have bought my cable luber with me, oh well.
