Each to their own. Perhaps his dislike not entirely a reflection on the bike. Fireblade seems a far cry, in terms of comparison, from a naked upright. Guess I just like that style of bike.

I know where you're coming from Dan - my gixxer has cost me a fortune in depreciation, servicing, sticky tyres etc from commuting, and the salt in particular does all sorts of nasty things to new shiny bikes!

Don't get me wrong, I love riding it everyday, and it's fun in traffic, etc - but if you have a long commute then it's a good idea to think of having something else too.

Keep the trumpet order as it stands - it's what you've got your heart set on and you'll always be dribbling over them if you don't get it!

That means changing the hornet...not sure what age your bike is, but personally i'd stick in the SV/hornet category but get an older/tattier looking one if you can't afford to keep your current bike. Not sure you'd save that much in running costs by changing to something like a GS500 (tho I could be wrong!). Oh and tyres are a good cost saving area, you can go for hard wearing ones on the commuter and keep the trumpet in nice sticky boots :D

Hey, leave me out of it (and I'm not that small) !! Whatever comes out of the combination of a Triple trumpet and a hairnet I don't know, but as sure as hell it ain't me! :smt101

Keep the Trumpet whatever, do what like with the hairnet which could be chopped in for one of those err SV thingy's

tbh the Hornet has now done 25'000 miles and still looks pretty good. I was looking at a low mileage GS500 but then they are about ?2'500 anway. Perhaps I should keep both and then just run the Hornet into the ground. It's very reliable and I know the history of it. I had two cheap commuters a few years ago and both turned out to be a false econonomy as they constantly needed things doing to them. Hmm, now how do I explain it to the mrs.......;)

At the end of the day the Hornet is good for 100,000 miles or more providing you do the oil changes regularily butto me it wasnt anywhere near as fun as the street tiple.

The sound of the engine mixed with some extremely light handling make it just the perfect bike.

Unfortunately like me if you get the ST you will suffer with opionalextraitis meaing the 5.5k bike is now nearly 7k!!!

But what a bike though. Got mine on the 1st march. 1st one out of the shop at 9.05am!!

Yup, order was cancelled. Probably not getting DRZ just yet. Need to see how much the flat costs us each month and then I can guage how much I have 'free' for more toys. The most sensible thing I've done since I started biking!

I do oil changes every 3'000 miles and filter/oil ever 6'000. So with this in mind at what point does an engine need to be re-built due to bearings etc?
