As for built by hand - If i were landing hard on my noggin, dunno about you, but i'd rather be wearing a piece of kit put together by something that can calculate pi to a million decimal places than a minimum wage sweat shop urchin.

But anyhow, not knocking Arai etc, i would have bought into it myself if i could have found one i liked but its interesting to see those results and even more interesting to see the stam, stamp, pout, pout response of a few Arai owners enraged that their 400 doesnt automatically buy 5 stars.

+1, it is amusing listening to the Arai and Shoei bunch get all arsy cos they havent automatically got 5* for 400+quid!! LOL, aww feel a bit ripped off do we ;)

Most helmets are the same size, its just the liner and pads that change, except for kids and real large sizes. Jax has a XS helmet and the shell is the same as the L its just larger pads and rear neck brace.

thing is.....if you sat in a shop and tried on 3 different helmets of a particular brand, of the same size, you will be garanteed to find that they all fit different. The shells are all the same, but it depends on who and how the inner padding is made by or stitched etc. I have had a nitro helmet and it was really, really good, I've still got it as a spare. My shark helmet was an upgrade, and I love it to bits. At the end of the day , you can only drop a helmet once to get ruined, or smashed in a crash, so it doesn;t matter how much you pay....so long as it does the job

lol Grinch beat me to it...great minds eh

To right, but now people are going to think "I have to buy a 5 star lid" and they might end up with a 5 star lid that dont fit, rather than a 3 star lid that does and the 5 star lid isnt going to give 5 star protection if it dont fit your head is it.

it'd be interesting to see the science behind how the star ratings were arrived at. It just doesnt look very scientific.

I would have thought the Arai would have scored better than it does, like I say it would be interesting to know why they scored it down compared to the other lids on the test.

I'd fire lid wearing dwarfs out of a cannon into the side of a cow, i'd assume they thought along similar lines when designing the tests.

perhaps it was as simple as the hammer thay hit it with, cracked it in half in comparison to, it just dinted it, or particially cracked it. Perhaps they used a crash test dummy head. I think they have some sort of thing inside the skull that converts impact readings, so they can tell how much a human head would be injured.......been watching too much mythbuster ya see

dunno, but it could be as simple as that....shrugs shoulders

21 months ago a helmet saved my life, no joke, rescue services stated by rights I shouldn't have survived, massive deformation on both the inside and out, concussed, but otherwise fine, I'll be sticking with that brand thanks as I know they work.

Might just be a reason those experianced, have certain brands, but hey stick your head in whatever you want, your life.

Cheers Mark
