Re: Looking at a new bike
There was an article in Bike magazine a couple of months back putting the K8 GSXR750 up against a VFR800 for touring and they rated the GSXR as BETTER. The only thing it lost out on was pillion comfort and tank range (about 20-30 miles less due to a smaller tank). Everything else they said was better, the engine, comfort, power delivery and the fact that you can have some serious fun at the weekend :) . If you want it cheaper, the K6/K7 are almost identical apart from the headlight and can be picked up quite a bit cheaper than new.

Having said that, George White are offering some pretty good deals on their bikes at the moment (seems to be most of the supersport/litre sport bikes). For the K8 750 you can get £2000 of "stuff" with it - leathers, helmet, exhaust, and a few other bits and bobs. It's a good deal if you are in the market for the stuff, I think (or can sell it on for a decent price). |
Re: Looking at a new bike
Get a GSXR. Don't just look at the 600/750 but consider the 1000 too for more usable road power. They will be comfy enough, consumption not really any different to an SV and if you ride it at the same speed as the SV the servicing costs don't really vary much.
Buy a brand new "last years" model and save a packet. No more than £7k for a Thou, £6500 for 750 or £5500 for a 600. Possibly less if you are canny. |

Re: Looking at a new bike
As it happens, due to a neck injury I have to change my bike, so the 'Blade has to go and a naked has to come in.
I have spent today riding the Street Triple, the Speed triple and the Bandit-S 1250. The biggest surprise was the Bandit. The latest model has so much grunt, and while it's a bit on the porky side, it handled well and was very, very comfortable. The Street Triple is an absolute joy to ride - I don't know how Triumph make that 675 lump pull like it does..... Very light, very nimble, fast and easy to ride. For the money, it's a great bit of kit, and the new "R" version with the Daytona suspension & brakes should be even better (at a premium of £750....) The Street Triple is the dogs, I'm hoping to have permission from the bank manager from the warm side of the bed to do the deal next week. I love Honda's, but the CB1000R looks like a Jap Street Triple, and it will never sound as good. For the money, the naked SV1000 is a good option too. . |

Having ridden the 955i daytona for the last two years the 675 street triple just felt like too much hard work! |
