Re: Bike Wont Start, Have I Flooded it?
The first day i rode my SV, i was really suprised by the weight - i'd only been used to a twist and go scooter up to this point. I ran wide, very wide, on the first 2 corners. My throttle control was also appalling! Although you might have better initial throttle control, having ridden manual 125's, so you might not have much to worry about there

Yes you can flood an EFI bike... flooding is simply when an excess of fuel gets in there. Doesn't matter how it gets in there.

Flooding means fuel passes into the engine, (the cylinder), but does not get burnt, this most commonly occurs at a cold start and could be a sign of poor ignition, or simply incorrect choke/throttle setting. Once sufficient fuel rich gas is in the cylinder it will recondense back to liquid fuel, this is very difficult to light and also causes subsequent fuel to droplet even more easily. If you have turned the engine over on choke for more than a few seconds, particularly in cold weather, flooding is quite likely. If you think it's flooded switch off the choke, open the throttle wide and press the starter button, this will clear the liquid fuel from the cylinder and probably start the engine without choke, although it may require the choke to continue running as normal. An FI motor can be flooded, but there's no choke setting to get wrong as the FI system will set the injection volumes to suitable levels using info from the various temperature sensors, so will most likely only occur if there is a fault in the FI or ignition systems. |

Seen it a few times on newish bikes, idle enrichment is determined by water tempterature it seems, so if that sensor fails it will run sloppy rich when warm and sometimes refuse to start from hot.
