Re: Who fancies a ride?

Sorry folks, my litle eyes didn't open until about 9.30 this morning, and then spent the next hour and a bit watching telly in bed.

I do have an excuse for that - I was working all weekend finishing at midnight on both Fri & Sat and in for days on Sun & Mon coupled with the wife being on earlies and getting up every day at 5.30am!!!!!

There has been not a lot of sleep in the GRH household so it was time to catch up.:smt015:smt015:smt015

Home about half an hour ago.

Took a more interesting route back. Sedbergh, Hawes, Leyburn, Masham, Ripon.

Thanks guys for an absolutely fantastic day out. I'd fallen out of love with my SV after riding a BMW but I'm in love again now.:D

Re: Who fancies a ride?

Well, those who couldn't make it missed a brilliant day out. I started out in fog and cold, and made my way to Clitheroe, then Waddington where I met Melody. Then we headed on out, passing my favourite house and flowers.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...1/DSCF4039.jpg

The trip went really well, over the tops above Sladburn with views back to Pendle and on to the Pennines and the Lake District. We stopped at Devils for ice cream, well I did, Mel had a mug of tea, then we set off for Sedburgh. I nodded at a few bikes, including a silver pointy, then noticed a lone biker tring to get past Mel, who never seemed to be out of my mirrors, despite my best efforts! A mile later on, I glance in the mirror to see a biker gestucluating at me. I pull over thinking he couldn't overtake, to be met by the beaming face of..............The Lungemeister!

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...1/DSCF4049.jpg

Stopped for a chat, Richie was meeting his Dad, so we agreed to meet at Hartside.

Off we trundled again, therough Sedburgh and on towards Brough. I stopped for a pic and snapped Mel blasting past, it was a lucky shot, boy, that girl can move!

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...1/DSCF4042.jpg

Then, who turned up? Amarko5! Apparently, he "senses" when people type Hartside and his bike auto steers itself to the ride!

Then off again up to Middleton in Teesdale where the best road in the UK starts. From there to Alston is, without doubt, my top road ever!

Hartside was clear with no rain, mist or even flies! It's true, see I took a pic where you can see more that just the wall at the edge of the car park.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...1/DSCF4051.jpg

We sat on the wall, gazed at the view, chewed the fat and generally basked in the sun.

Mark finally spotted me sitting right in front of him,

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...1/DSCF4054.jpg

Then we all went home. Mel and I via the very, very fast (of course 60mph tops) A6 through Shap to Kendal, where I had to use the M6 and Mel went off via Sedburgh, Devils and the A65.

All in all, about 270 miles on glorious dry roads, with good company.

Pete

Re: Who fancies a ride?

Well my day started with the "Hartside radar" detecting that someone mentioned hartside ;)

so after a bit of organising i asked pete his route (he PMed me the route but not his number DOH!) anyway after knowing which way they were travelling i set off to intercept somewhere en-route.

I start with a little jaunt down some b roads to get me to penrith this is the view from beacon edge.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...eacon-edge.jpg

with a great pano of the lakes mountains

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...4-09/pano2.jpg

then i set off over to hartside then alston moor

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...-moor-view.jpg

as you can see alston moor has some wicked roads (look closely) notice the absence of traffic :D

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...9/alston-2.jpg

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...ton-moor-1.jpg

ok so im doing XX MPH and the sat nav / phone rings just as im cranking it round some of the best bends, i answer and cant hear a voice but pass on the fact i am travelling the agreed route towards them.

so i get an opportunity to pull up after middleton in teesdale to ring back, so sitting beside the resovoir i call Richie.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...-09/pano-1.jpg

I find out that Melody and Pete had left devils and were on route, so after a quick ciggie i proceed to ride the road over brough moor (tut tut it's a hard life).

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...-moor-road.jpg

then i dropped down into Brough and see the unmistakable shape of a pointy and a very curvey SV's (Melody and Pete mate) after a little chinwag and meeting the beautiful Melody for the first time, we turn round and i have to endure the same route all over again :smt041 :smt041

we had a little detour down to the res for a photo opp

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...-09/res-us.jpg

the very beautiful Melody at the res (boy that girl can ride quickly)

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...melody-res.jpg

After this it was some real good road riding (no corner cutting) blast along some of the best roads in the top 4 counties in the UK and some grub at hartside ( we met Richie who had travelled a different route after meeting with his Dad at Devils) then a blast down to Penrith where i said my goodbye's (my rear tyre would not last much further)

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...9/P1000265.jpg

the route i took for the day was 150 mile loop on some of my local playground.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...te-for-me-.jpg

and you can see by this graph the elevation changes we went through (rather symetrical it is ( well it would be as i went out and back along the same roads :D) a rise and fall of some 1766 feet with a top out on alston moor of 1971.5 feet and hartside which is 1904 feet

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...9/altitude.jpg

Fantastic day with FANTASTIC company we must do it again SOON
