Now done about 80 miles on them (33 mile round trip each day) and they feel fine now.

Guess I'm going to invest the nearly 400 quid for motorcycle maintenance course at local college in September just for peace of mind. At least then I'll have an idea of what each part should do, what the play etc. should be, does it matter if this bit comes off in my hand.
