Decapitation almost happened to one of the lads who works for my extended family. because of wire strung across a track

Enough to kill him. Not at all funny

I realise it was a joke - but sometimes people do actually get really annoyed and try these things without realising the consequences. So I just made sure the consequences now appear next to the suggestion, for anyone reading this thread.

TW has illustrated the point quite well.

In response to the original post - Yes. Not for the good of the kids riding the bikes (someone mentioned Darwin) more for the fact that if they cause someone to have an accident, who is that person supposed to claim off?!

Got a bit of sympathy for these kids. The days where you could find a bit of scrubland and break limbs without bothering anyone seem to be gone.

Back in the dark ages I can remember parents throwing up assualt course adventure playground type things on wasteland to keep the kids entertained over the summer holidays.
Doubt in this climate of " Risk aversion, No such thing as an accident" culture that could happen now.

Think we live in the worst enviroment for fun police (By which I don't mean the actual police police) there is - no wonder our Kids are supposed to be the most miserable in europe.

Oooh rant over.

Edit: Off topic.

Re: Should I Report Them?

Just as an addendum to my original post...I was watching helicopter heros this morning while doing the ironing (yep, I actually did some) and there was a very poignant story on there.

An 18 year old lad that HAD gone through his CBT and WAS on the road legally was riding around on his scooter as we see so many youngsters riding around, not paying proper attention, all over the road, weaving in and out of traffic etc. He overtook cars that he thought were going too slowly but had failed to notice that car 1 had it's right indicator on and he slammed right into the side of her because in his own words, "I wasn't even looking in front of me, I was chatting to my mate that was riding alongside". He was 18 and is now paralysed below the waist as he came off the scooter and hit a brick wall......this was doing 20mph!

Now, these kids on minimotos or whatever they are really are putting themselves in great danger. They are unlikely to injure anyone in another vehicle, but couldn injure pedestrians. They could cause damage to third party vehicles or property....but they could kill or seriously harm themselves. Not long after Stretchie and I moved to where we are now, one of the young moped lads there was killed because he didn't even look right when he was pulling out into a main road.

Report them, but speak to someone about your concerns and why not back it up with a letter or petition to your local councillor. As much as I abhore these kids running riot on our roads, I also understand that they very often have nothing better to do and no better a place to do it.

but my point is that they arent riding over some land near my house. they are riding on the road in the dark with no lights etc overtaking traffic at about 30 on roads that narrow and uneven and have many obsitcles that require cars to pull in and out of all the time - i dont know how they havent been hit by a car pulling out on them already

thats cheryl - im gonna try and get some video evidence of them when i next hear them coming and i'll definately report them to the police

I completely agree with your sentiment, I used to be able to ride my bike wherever I wanted when I was a kid......I wouldn't let my kids do it though...it's a different world now. There is such a greater number of vehicles on the road and uninsured vehicles at that that I feel we need to think of other ways to give kids that release and fun they need. At the moment, local authorities will build a skate park and think they're job is done.......it isn't. More needs to be done to give kids something to do.

You have PM as it may not be a good idea to just go out there with a camera.....I'll tell you what I was asked to do by the police where I used to live...and I hadn't even complained, they just knocked on the door and asked due to the view from my back window!
