Re: What ticks your boxes?
Comfort and relaxed riding, this being dependent on the individual, decent touring capability with hard luggage, adequate cruising speed and economy giving a good tank range.Buy what I want so that I don't have to start changing everything to improve the bike, but most of all reliability and availability of parts should anything need replacing during breakdowns or service.-------------COST-----------------

Re: What ticks your boxes bike wise?
I was looking for a bike that could tour, commute, hack it on fun roads and didn't cost a packet in petrol, insurance and other odds and sods, max budget 3K. looked at loads, like gsx600f, fazer 600, z750, hornet 600 and sv650. I whittled myself down to a Fazer 6 and the SV, SV was more sporty riding position (which I sometimes regret!) looked better and sounded better. Fazer had marginally better brakes and super-smooth feeling engine. Couldn't compare power because the Fazer had a 33hp limiter (but was still fast enough!) So filtered with head, bought with heart. Next - Street Triple or 600 sports rocket (if I can afford it!), but not really necessary, and if I actually had to commute, or had the money for real touring - I'd go that way instead. VFR, Sprint ST or whatever. Or a R1200S!

Re: What ticks your boxes bike wise?
To ride, doesn't really matter what, I've had fun on everything from a C50 to a blown busa, but the one thing that gives me the greatest buzz is having and knowing I have a bike* sat outside and can at anytime just jump on it and ride.
* doesn't hurt it's a superduke either...... Cheers Mark |
Re: What ticks your boxes bike wise?
I want something that looks good and handles well and can be ridden for long preiods of time in resonable comfort. Also something I can afford to buy.
The SV looked good and was a bargain but was uncomfortable and the handling was poo. I was going to get a Thundercat or CBR600F but after a bit of reasearch found out I could get a Fireblade for the same price. The Fireblade is way too fast, most rides I go on I keep it in top gear and never go in the top quarter of the rev range. But when you want to sacre the living bejesus out of yourself knock it down to second and pin the throttle. Still not had the balls to hit the rev limiter yet which I have been told in second gear comes up at about 110!! Unless I get serious problems with it that make it un-economical to repair I cant see why I would ever need anything else. |
Re: What ticks your boxes bike wise?
I think I'm a sucker for a V-Twin. Though the only other bike I've ridden much is a 400cc IL4, so it's hard to really compare- the 400 really has no legs at the bottom of the revs.
But I love the grunt and especially the sound of a V-Twin. Two things I really missed when riding my Bro's bike. Other than that, I think that once you've owned a bike for a while, you just get on it and think "This is my bike!"- I guess it's the fondness of familiarity. Not too ugly for me though- unless it's on purpose. If I bought a V-Max, that'd be part of the package (not that I'm likely to for a long time!). One thing that puts me off some bikes is being a cyclops- I like a pair of eyes (lights) at the front of a bike- it just looks better! The bike I'll buy next will probably be a practical choice though- commute to work and riding through London doesn't really lend itself to race-geared bikes. Mpg will be a consideration too, but alongside things like parts availability and cost, servicing/running costs and so on. But....hmmmm....a 1000cc V-Twin might just fit the bill! I guess I should still let go and buy with the heart- I'll be that much happier with a bike I buy that way. |

Re: What ticks your boxes bike wise?
I got my SV because i was 17, it was cheap, it was cheap to insure and imo looks better than any other bike i could afford to buy and insure.
How ever my next bike i want a ZX6R B1H or C1H, i think they both look amazing but i think for me i like the idea of the 636 engine and again, they look about the right price range for what i will be able to afford when my restriction is up and it comes to buying a new bike |
Re: What ticks your boxes bike wise?
Hard to really say, but for me it is bikes that you don't see every day, but obviously all still very capable machines in terms of handling, power etc. I know the SV doens't really tick any of these boxes, but I couldn't exactly jump straight onto any of the bikes I really want straight after my test! :)
I'd love to own any of the following: Honda VTR SP-2 BMW S1000RR MV Agusta F4 Aprillia RSV-4. Ducati 1198 R Corse! :) The most likely I'll ever own is probably the SP-2 as there are fairly nice examples for £4-5k. |

Re: What ticks your boxes bike wise?
I am not really into the supersports thing, but I don't want a GS either, so I am thinking about an Aprillia Futura next as I do prefer the Vtwin engines. Faling that may go for a Duke ST4
