Re: How do you know when your chain is worn out?

I know this is obviously a silly/hard question to answer over the net given I can't provide pictures (bike at dealer), but basically my bike is still on standard chain and sprockets (c&s) and I'm going on a france/spain tour in sept where I expect to probably do 3-5k miles over a week or so. By sept I imagine the c&s would have done 12k. It doesn't have a scott oiler, I lube it regularly, but only cleaned it three times in the past 18months.

On the above information - replace for peace of mind, or it should be fine? Money is always tight for me.

Depends on the chain!!

Mine lasted 18k. Last 3k were scottoilered.

right im just wondering, been looking into the V system Scottoiler, but from all the pictures of it fitted it seems to only have 1 nozzle? which is on the outside of the sprocket, and sitting against it, how does that lube the rings, or the other side of the chain?

Trust me , I have used one sided dispensers all the time and it gets everywhere . I wouldn`t bother with the expense of the V-System , normal Scottoiler will suffice .

My R6 is still on Origanal C&S at ~22K, i lube the chain once a month if its lucky. I recon its still got another 5k as i cant pull it away from the Sprocket yet.

Seems reasonable but don't let that stop you shopping around.
