Why can't people ,companies, firms or schools just change the start, finish times?

A bit like when hitler tried to introduce a mathematical system where there were 100 degree in a circle instead of 360?

I saw this on bbc news this morning. They had a picture taken in harlow down south, a picture in liverpool and one in glasgow - harlow had a nice bright red sky and the sun was almost up, liverpool was still very dull with the street lights on and glasgow looked like the middle of the night - all the pictures were taken at 7.30am and emailed/txt'd in to the news.

I was surprised just how much of a variation there was...

Also on that article on the BBC were some of the savings that could be made by lighte afternoons, plus more activities/attractions staying open and even, the estimated, 80 fewer people killed on the roads.

I can see the problem the further north you go. Is it a far too radical idea to suggest that Scotland has it's own time? Other countries do it.

they've got their own money and their own parliament - as far as I can see they're only a few years away from building a big wall so they might as well get a shuffle on :)

I've been getting up and leaving for work in the dark for weeks already. It won't be long now before I will be getting to work in the dark and going home in the dark. Makes no difference to me. Get rid of the GMT+1 and leave the clocks alone.

Well at work I run on UTC, means the servers dont go into a tizz twice a year by having to adjust for an hours loss in the logs, or a duplication of time.

Lets just have the clocks go back at the weekend and leave them there

Forever

The basic suggestion is that the clocks will go back this Autumn to GMT as normal, go forward 1 hour next Spring as normal (BST) then stay there next Autumn, so that we stay at GMT+1. There is also the possibility of going to GMT+2 in the next Spring.

Now I quite like the idea of more light later in the day in the Winter evenings, but I'm not sure about going to work early in the mornings in the dark for more weeks of the year. And that's without thinking beyond myself, in terms of other workers, children and energy saving.

What do you think?

Thats all well and good, but it would cause havoc in all manner of maratime and aeronautical areas. As for going forward, then forward again, na, that means i loose 2 hours of sleep. Not happy about that.

I think there are decent foundations for a really big wall there already :smt115

Surely it's much easier to just not change the clocks twice a year, rather than force everybody to change start and finish times.

All times are GMT. The time now is 01:47 AM.
