Another option: " every which way but loose " ? ;)

Update:
I should have put "None of the above" as an option :)

I've been screwed three times this morning and I haven't even got to the claim part. They even charged me for changing address and also an higher premium for being 100 yards down the same road, in the same village!

it turns out its the magic words "have you had an accidents, claims or convictions in the last 5 years"

If I claim, I'll have a claim which will double BOTH of my insurance policies despite full, protected no claims and not being involved. The Claim is enough.

2) When they ask her the same questions she gets screwed becasue she's had the accident.

3) if the car is written off, I need to buy and insure a new car before the payment for the old one arrives! Joy!

So thats THREE policies that are doubled from one event. Despite me saying that the liability (her) will not be on my policy next year, it makes no difference.

The bunch of scamming cheating b******

So there will be no claim and now I have a car to fix.

The *******

Hopefully Ebay will be kind!

Carl,

Are these just quotes from your current insurer? With the way motor insurance rates are going just now most of us are going to take a hit at next renewal whether there has been an accident or not. If they're indicating a new price you don't know how much of that is down to the accident and how much is just the general increase - you also don't get the discount for "brand new customers only".

It would be worth running through a new quote on a comparison site based on your current circumstances, with and without the claim, to see what difference it's actually likely to make.

Not necessarily. Depends how you work it.

Oh, it gets better!

If I cancel the claim, they still keep it open for 4 months anyway.

And that just happens to cover the period where both my policies expire!

So even if I don't claim , it still shows as a claim so I'm shafted even if I don't claim.

I ******* hate insurance companies!

That's an internal matter for them. You'll still get proof of your maximum (protected) NCD and if you choose not to make the claim, then you've got nothing to declare to another insurer. If your existing insurer wants to price themselves out the market that's their problem.

I feel for you mate. I got stung last year when buying my bike. I phoned up my insurance company who I was with until Feb and told them that I was looking to buy the bike at the weekend. They gave me a quote to adjust and said no problem and to ring them.
Phoned them up when I got the bike (200 miles away from home), and got told that the dept that deals with current customers was closed (It was Sunday) and that they could only give a new quote. Said new quote was way over £300 so I was feeling rather sick as the change over was only going to cost about £60.
I was told that I wouldnt get anything off the old policy as it was paid in full and *only* had 3 months to run.
Needless to say, I phoned another company and had to take out a fresh policy with them.

I was fuming, losing another year NCB because of 3 months, being told that I was being bent over from the cost of a new policy as well as not receiving any decent service from them!

The new insurers didnt seem a great deal better but at least their costs were lower.

Re: How will the insurance try to screw me?

I feel your pain, a couple of nights ago my missus reversed our car out of the drive to let her sisters car out, but failed to spot the black bmw z3 parked directly opposite the drive (it was pitch black and there is a bus stop there so it shouldn't have been parked there in the first place).

One rear bumper hanging off and one crumpled z3 door later, the insurance premium will go up in april when its due for renewal. I have no claims protection but doubt this will count for much. Was hoping to shop around a few specialist insurance brokers but this isn't going to do my haggling any favours.

The insurance want £600 excess to repair our car, fook that I'll get second hand bumper for 1/5 of the cost.
