I'm riding from Glasgow to Stoke in a few weeks so that's about 4.5hrs on the M6 according to Mister Google. Reckon I might use the A6 for some of it as the motorway bores me when I'm driving in the car. God knows how I'd cope on the SV....

I usually try and beat whatever time the sat nav gives me for getting to my destination. If it tells me 2.5hrs, I'll aim for <2hrs

I'm with Ralph here make a jaunt out of it enjoy the good roads you can use, instead of making the journey a labour, make it a love... It'll make the whole trip and party way better, its something to tell the people you going to see about (if they're bikers they'll love the extra thought you put into it)

I did Glasgow to Cadwell Park and didn't touch motorway type roads (bar going over Humber bridge - I wanted that part) and it was so worth while...

+1 to taking the scenic route if you have the time. You'll enjoy the journey rather than seeing it as a chore. And you can always jump back on the motorway for the last stretch if times getting on.

Get some tunes on and get your head down if not, you get into a trance and the miles just tick away. 220 is the most mway miles i've done in 1 go, with a quick pit stop for fuel. And that was crumpled up on a sportsbike
