Yes but some pr*ck on here was turning his SV into a busa with some fuel additive of dubious constitution a while back, it had "nitro" in the name, it must make it go faster...

So yeah dyno runs, fanboi's can leave their claims at the door. End of day if it was that good we'd all be running it.

Re: Oil usage question.

the thing is, nearly all the GT teams and 24hour teams are running it and more than half of the f1 grid all f2 and f3 cars use it

supposedly there g-box oil is that good you can strain it and reuse :S lol

if i ever get the chance i will give it a go

If your bike is using oil I certainly wouldnt put anything expensive in it unless I enjoyed burning money.

As for removing oil, a length of tubing from b&q, a turkey baster from sainsburys insert baster into tubing insert tubing into oil hole down into the sump, squeeze baster and release to draw the oil up and put it into a empty bottle. You can re-use the oil and it saves any messing about with sump plugs for a piddly wee job, plus you can get it spot on.

I'm suprised with it using that amount of oil that you don't report any other symptoms that could be associated with it.

overheating, cutting out, problems starting it, drinks fuel. (take the plugs out, how do they look? eg. piston rings goosed) exhaust fumes colour. Does the engine stutter etc...

Re: Oil usage question.

I cant see how oil alone can increase bhp to much anything over noticeable amounts...

The fact that race teams use it suggests it is made to be better under high stress, but I'd be doubtful if the SV engine ever got anywhere near that level.

The only way I can see oil making that much difference is if it was compared to an oil that didnt lubricate at all...and I dont think there is that much difference in the oil race teams use vs off the shelf stuff nowadays! (in that respect)

I could be talking complete rubbish as I am in no way techincally or mechanically qualfied to draw any reasonable conclusion, but this rings the "Air filter alone making 10bhp more" and "TRE making 10 bhp more" ilk of rumour...

Genius idea - thanks :) All sorted now

Re: Oil usage question.

My SV seems to now be using a significant amount of oil, significant as in it got through ~750ml in ~193miles. Admittedly those miles *were* round Cadwell Park and there was a fair amount of high revs and over run going on but the original engine hardly used any and I don't recall this engine being this bad prior to its 2 year lay-up[1]. I know its not leaking as there is not a trace of oil in the bellypan.

Anyone any idea what's most likely to be the culprit? Rings, stem seals or oil vapour to the airbox? Only difference since last time it was run is its had an oil change and the valve clearances have been set correctly[2].

Dunno, forgot to check and I'll have to wait until the w/e to find out. No one reported vast amounts of smoke though.
