Re: No Clutch...and before anyone beats me up...

really appreciate your help :) Oil - I put the new gasket on, put the cover on, put on a new filter then just filled it up, turned it over so the oil circulated around the system then topped it up to the correct level, and topped up the water obviously! thought that would have been pretty straight forward

Basically if you put car oils in a bike with a wet clutch you will get clutch slip as they have detergent's added to the oil.

Although personally I would use the recommended Semi synthetic bike oil.

That's what my 25,000 mile SV runs on and I think using full might cause the same problem?

I also only run it on fully or semi synthetic oil, definitely has correct oil in, also only run on super unleaded..its also now done 46k, bought on 3k, basically its just my transport to work & will be until it falls to pieces

So you let it run for about 3 minutes or so , got the temp up to about 87 degrees , then shut off , waited 3 minutes , levelled the bike and adjusted oil level to suit yes ?

well it got up to about 65c, but it was about 3 mins & it was a very warm day, then shut off & topped up. I may call out the RAC as I need to get it MOT'd..

Aaah don`t be too hasty , we have the right oil , the right amount , a pushrod . Hmmm , now don`t take this the wrong way , have you had that worm gear off at all ?

Re: No Clutch...and before anyone beats me up...

No worries all help is useful :) Worm gear has not been off at all,I'm wondering if my problem could lie with the actual clutch change, but I followed the instructions to the letter. Can I ask, when the new springs are put in, are they supposed to be done up tight, that is the only thing I can think might be amiss, they are done up tight, because the old ones were, but when they came out they were so compressed they were1/2 the size of the new ones

Looking at your worm drive picture , you don`t half have that adjuster on the sprocket end of the cable wound right out you know , been a long time since I did mine but I am sure I had some thread showing at the bottom ..... like about 1/4" at least :/ . This only adjusts the cable like , won`t effect the clutch operation . Gonna try and narrow this down .

Right , have you tried rocking the bike back and forth with the clutch lever pulled in ? And the bike in gear and no engine running ?

I`m also inclined to ask you to make sure your gear selector is free from cack , mine did something like this and the teflon bush thing inside was crocked and fouling gear selection . I ended up ripping it out and greasing it and it never gave me a problem again .

Re: No Clutch...and before anyone beats me up...

Yeah you are right, but only going off what the manual says, I did adjust it in the other direction which gave me more slack at the lever, then adjusted it back, it could do with moving, but not much. Anyway enough from me for today, will log on tomorrow am to check on updates, but off out to dinner now. thanks for your perseverence :)
