Have you test ridden an SMT? It still gets a bit loose on the front when pushed and the wind gets underneath but it might be a little better at <100mph motorway trips than the adventure, and it also has the added benefit of long travel suspension for those crappy b-roads unlike the sports bikes.

Or there's always a new 1190 adv, I've heard the aerodynamics are a big improvement...just year 1 of production and no nicely priced secondhand ones yet...could wait for an ex-demo?

Do you really want to say bye bye to KTM and the big v-twin fun...

Just my wee bit.

I'll be referring to the Hayabusa, but it all applies to the ZZR14.

I've had my Hayabusa for 5 years and 44k miles. These bikes aren't for everyone, but I love my Busa. That's why I've had it 5 years and think that it's a keeper.
The ZZR will handle, just not as good as something with less weight and a shorter wheelbase.
I find the Busa easy to ride, even in the twisties, but within it's limits. It can be chucked around, but you've got to be prepared to have it bite pretty hard.
It's a big lump of a bike to have getting out of shape underneath you, so hustle it at your pearl.
As for the expense of running it, it's heavier on brake pads. I don't go through tyres any quicker than on previous bikes. My bike is still on it's original
chain and sprockets, which I put down to keeping it very well lubed. Service costs are on a par with any 1000cc bike.

From a practicality point, you can chuck hard luggage on it (SW Motech racks) and a higher screen, then go munch those miles. If it's for you, then you'll love it.

A good long test ride is what's needed.
