If you miss it, it's basically a complete piece of **** to do :) A Haynes manual might be advisable to take you through it if you want to totally dismantle and drain the forks (I reckon that if you're going to the hassle of taking the forks off the bike, you might as well change the oil seals if they've done any decent mileage, you're halfway there already and they're not expensive) but you could get most of the results by taking off the forks, turning them upside down and squishing them a few times, then leaving them to drip. That'll leave some oil in the dampers and a general coating, but it'll get most of it out.
You could probably do a fair-middling job without even taking the forks off the bike, just by taking the springs out and siphoning out as much old oil as possible... Don't really know how well this'd work though, since i did it properly :) |
hmmm
I'm definitey interested...will have to check on finances and availability

OK,Guy & Girls, here's the score.
1./ it's more than 2 people. 2./ everyone has their springs and oil 3./ firm commitment can be made by Wednesday (20th) that week. Probably no more than eight bike in a session, or so, and bear in mind you will be doing most of the work yourselves and helping each other. Flamin_Squirrel BillyC Raf And jonboy (if he ever gets his act together, that is) Get first crack at the eight slots, as they have provisionally pre-booked (dependent on confirmation on the 20th), then it will be “first come first served” after that (not until the 20th though, anyone PMing me before for a place, will have to do it again on the 20th). Four groups, doing 2 bikes at a time, (have to buy a couple more big sockets then) about 30-40 minutes each group (takes me 15 minutes). You might have to have a whip round for a bit of milk and brew stuff, as it’s at my brothers house (can’t expect him to pay, he doesn’t even own an SV) But don't know yet, as I've only briefly discussed it with him. Watchers, hanger on’s and general lay about’s :- will be expected to lend a hand if needed, I would guess maybe 4 or 5 would be the max. As each bike will no doubt be setup differently (within general boundaries), I’ll offer assistance in “expected feel” and show you how to “fine tune” the front end. I’ll advise and make sure no bike goes out in an unsafe condition. Quote:

Being as I live so near anyway, and know where it is, I can bring extra tools such as sockets etc etc,
|
Joe has ordered me some springs, so if there is a slot left on the course I'd like to come along.
I'll bring the digital camera & will try & write up the 'lesson' so it can be posted on the site, as there seems to be lots of interest in this subject cheers :D |
Update, Darrel (my brother) is away on this date, but I have keys, so we have the place to ourselves.
Garage (if the weather turns bad, get 2 bike in, no problem), two paddock stands, jacks and blocks there so no problem with that. I'll pick-up another couple of large sockets (fork top & steering head) before hand, so two sets will be available on the day. Places to be deicided on the 20th (I'll mail out confirmation along with directions and contact number, at that time). Depending on how much of a nightmare this turns into, I may run another in a few weeks/early next year, time for those who miss out (weather dependent). Cheers Mark. |
:D :D :D :D
Brilliant... Mark, I should think that after this you'll never have to buy yourself another pint at an SV meet ever again - what an investment of your time! |
Well I'm gonna be there regardless of invite or not. And if I get thrown out, I will picket on the front drive. Started building my banner already
|
At the request of Rictus, I shall also be in attendance to give assistance and fend off those little problems that may otherwise mar the fettling of one's motor-bicycle.
If necessary because of numbers I'll bring tools and a couple of paddock stands, so the more the merrier. Does anyone have suitable preload tube? If not I'll pick some up. |
