I've always worn the proper gear whatever the weather, but after the last two days I can understand why people don't. One thing that helps though is a decent balaclava and inner gloves like an inner lining for leathers, both keep my head and hands dry and it is easier and more comfortable to ride like that and they also stop your lid and gloves from building up any smells.

It's a bit like teaching children the valuable lessons. You can tell a young child that the stove is hot until you're blue in the face, but until the little blighter burns themself on it, they really don't heed your warnings.

By all means wear t-shirts and jeans - you'll only do it until you fall off. After that you'll NEVER do it again - I know from personal experience when I was W-A-Y younger. 8)

The trip to work is 21 miles each way. I always wear either leather jeans or my winter trousers in colder weather. I have a Spidi "Team" summer jacket that is armoured and vented, but not leather which I wear to work and when riding locally. For anything further I'll wear my leather jacket too.

I have been known to wear jeans, sometimes on a Friday up to the Soho meet or just running around locally. I wouldn't wear them to work though...

Off to Poole Quays tomorrow and it will be full leathers - I'll just have to go faster to cool down.

Proper kit only. This weekend, I used my perforated 2 piece leathers, with jacket lining removed. I also wear lightweight shorts underneath, so I can just shed the leather gear completely when I arrive.

I did turn up for a ride-out - as did about 50 other bikes !
I didn't join 'cos I didn't fancy being stuck marking a junction for anything up to an hour in the heat - I just wanted to keep moving.

Always wear the full protective gear.

Went out yesterday and I was HOT, anyone got any recommendations for lighter weight/breathable gear?

I wear FT 'Lay Rider' gear which is pretty thin leather with full armour, but hubby had to pull the leathers off me, swear someone put superglue down my trousers!!!

Only got my leathers on saturday (cheapo cordura up untill then). 1.6mm cow two peice, all black, all zipped up when out yesterday. Only started sweating when trying to put my lid/gloves on but, thirty seconds of bike moving, no worries. Wont go out with anything less then my back protector and CE armour.

Saw an excellent sight in Hornchurch yesterday, chavs on scooters, cheap off road lid without goggles, trainers, shorts, nothing else.

Was half tempted to give them a kick as I went past, just to see the effect 50mph tarmac would have on THAT MUCH exposed flesh :twisted:

Still ride in my leathers, only concession I make is I unzip the jacket haf way down.

Still stink by the time I get home though :oops: :oops:

My first 2 days of DAS and i have been riding in 28 C....got tomorrow and test on Wednesday and it would be good if it cooled down a bit.

I have an armoured jacket and jeans and some boots i use and the past year riding my 125cc i have occasionally worn trainers or normal jeans. I have been lucky and got away with it but as soon as i pass my test it is full leathers and proper boots all the time.

Sure u see a lot of peeps riding around in t shirts and some in shorts....they choose to take the risk but i am sure a handful will come off and wish they had not been so ferking stupid!

Got a pair of their trousers which come out when the warms up (like today :oops: ) and an HG Maxwell jacket with loads of vents. Still bloomin' warm though. Still, the right gear makes the difference between a spill you can hobble away from and one where you spend the next six months plus undergoing extremely painful skin grafts. Personally I'd rather smell bad!

I'm still going to work and back in my cold weather cordura. Simply because I can't be arsed to change when I get into work.
