Do I detect a hint of intolerance and the odd kneejerk reaction here? Our great nation is jam packed full of stupid people(I meet them every day  )but that is no excuse to demand they be banned from driving. This bloke may be a bit dim but is not a dangerous driver.

I'm more peeved about this bit tbh...

His latest appearance at Salford Magistrates' Court came after he failed to produce his insurance documents and licence.

If he came up in front of me I'd ban him. Even though his offences weren't all related to speeding, such blatant disregard for the law is unacceptable. He had a go at defending his actions, which he is entitled to do, but FFS - being articulate, employed and remorseful isn't enough, and in my view is discriminatory.

And to follow up Jen's point, to not follow the court's instructions and produce documents, then expect leniency, is a bit bloody cheeky.

For example, we had a kid in the other day who was driving on an international license and didn't realise he needed to convert to a UK license. He was just being thick and got let off with a fine and 3 pts and told to get a proper license.

We also had some drunk drivers in, and every last one of them got banned because everyone knows you take a risk when you have more than a couple of drinks.

I'm still learning the ropes, but the logic is making good sense to me.

A concern of mine in this case is one of consistancy.

One rule for one and a different rule for someone else.

.

According to the Telegraph ,

....It was this offence that led to his latest appearance in court and magistrates accepted that court staff failed to tell him of the hearing so he escaped a further eight points. Miss Miller said: "He had just set up a business and he was going through some emotional difficulties."

it is easily possible to be in a situation where you lose your documents and be done for failing to produce even though you are perfectly legal.. unfortunately in the PC world we live in everyone automatically assumes that this man is the most dangerous driver in the world.. as someone said if we all had been caught for our 'offences' we'd probably all be on about 60 points. he has more than likely been unfortunate just like the woman who was caught 11 times speeding on the same road in one day when the speed limit was reduced by 10mph.
