Because it made a terrible commute bearable and acceptable so far as time went. This allowed me to take a job with more pay, but was more awkward to get to. This then allowed me to move jobs a few more times and treble my pay in a few short years.

only reason i got my bike was so that i can get to work in a reasonable time. I wasted enough of my life sitting in traffic on my way to and from work.
If I'm honest i much prefer my car - if only i could have the roads to myself. |
Enjoyment---------------------------------------------------------------and I know we may have a bad image in the rest of the worlds eyes but can anybody mention where you will find better camaraderie

Personally I hate bikes, ever since that first pillion ride on a Suzuki 80cc twin at the age of 8. :?

As the reason I started to ride... I was going to be stuck in Leicester for a week between a mates stag night and his wedding. I thought 'What the hell can I do for a week?'. Decided a crash course seemed a good idea. Why do I keep riding? 'Cause I love it! (And I get to work in half the time in bad traffic). Stu |
Because i wanted one since i rode a little honda 50 (qr i think) when i was 4, on holiday in france. took me 12 years until i could actually afford a bike after wishing for one as you do on your birthday every year. anyways, now 20, been riding 4 years a have never looked back and never will! :D
Plus, having to drive my van to work every day really makes me appreciate having a bike and how traffic really pi**es me off! |
I met this girl, she was bad. Really bad.
Her Dad and brothers were bikers so I thought getting a bike would make her like me. I thought if she liked me enough she'd show me some of those things that made her bad. I got the bike and eventually got the girl. She was a crap shag so I kept on biking... |
'Coz I don't fit well in cars! (Of course, some would say I look like a gorilla on a tricycle on the SV...)

Because...
(a) I feel more in contact with the world, more alive when riding my bike than sitting in a tin box (b) I can overtake cars (c) I don't have to sit in traffic jams (d) It's not the typical thing for a company chief exec to do (e) (d) plus the look of surprise when I turn up for senior level meetings in the gear (f) I like the adrenalin rush from speed (g) I like the buzz when I get (very occasionally) a corner right (h) I like the space from being alone and having nothing else to think about to focus on than riding (i) It's a bit more environmentally friendly than a car (j) It has more pose appeal (k) It makes me think I'm young, big, hard, sexy and macho (when really I know I'm not any of those things) (l) I feel free when riding |
I split with the ex, sold our house and moved into a cheaper area. My younger brother has ridden for a number of years and I thought it would be good for me to do something very different and new. I have to admit it was partly a 'f@#& you' aimed in the general direction of my ex and her friends.
I don't care about 0-60 time I don't care about top speed I don't care about knee down, wheelies or most of the other things a lot of bikers aspire to. I do care about how my bike looks - and I bought the SV purely for looks (and possibly a bit of sound advice from my bro...). Like many others I like the feeling of freedom, nods from other bikers, the envious looks from pedestrians (especially when they turn around to find out what on earth is coming up the road behind them!!) as I pass them at 10mph bubbling and popping. I love the social side more than anything - a ride to the 'cat on a sunday for a brew, then down to Matlock for another brew, and to point at bikes I can't afford. |
