It would be helpful to you though if you could watch the mechanic as he undoes it. Should help the next time.

He'll be coming into my garage so Ill definitely be observing how he gets it off as I dont like being defeated. Tainted what I was hoping would be a totally DIY service!

In all honesty I could see something happening which would have meant the £15 extra would have been better in hindsight.

Done it!!! With a lot of effort, a lot of swearing and a bit of luck, the bloody thing finally came loose!!!

I remember doing mine 2 years back, with a slight hissing noise...
as i recall.

When I was torquing up the Front engine Sprocket, I think to myself, "Just do the oppsite and stick said wood under the swinging arm through the wheel and locking the rear wheel and sprockets..."
every thing going good, got it torqued up and removed the wood chock...

thats when I hear a quite faint noise....

Sisssssssssssssssssssssssssssss..... No not a snake but... the

Bloody chock of wood had cought on the tyre inflation Shraider vavle and tore into it a little.......

So now have an unrideable bike....

This goes to show that even a mechanic working on his own vehicle mucks up with a big F.

Taking the car tomorrow, as taking the rear wheel off, to get fixed to put back on the bike to take the bike to get the Split link off and the new link Riveted over.

to say Im a little anoyed with myself is an understatment.

YAhhy for you man :) Using a longer lever makes it an easier job.....

One thing to note, when putting the sprocket back on, make sure and torque it as suggested in the manual etc, DONT do what i did and put it on as tight as you can with a 6inch ratchet handle.

....it tends to leak.

It holds an oil seal in place. :(

Cue one sideways experience on a roundabout and one hell of a messy oily bike. :hackedoff:

I love my terrible cheapy electric impact gun... It always gives the impression it's going to shatter in my hands, mind, but it does the job. Might get an air one some day but I never use the air ratchet I have, too much logistics, so I guess it'd be the same.

so whats the torque setting on the nut (its not an import) and what is the torque setting on each of the rear sprocket nuts?

Sprocket nut 145 nm

Rear sprocket nuts 60 nm

NOT ft/lbs!

I didn't think they were meant to fall out at all. When I first bought my Bandit 600 the clutch action was awful and fitting a new cable didn't cure it. Turns out the clutch worm gear was so worn half the ball bearings had fallen out. A new one was 28 quid and totally transformed it.
