I wonder what % of crashed bikes were certified Kwak clean? Maybe if I buy a white helmet, and pay Kwak to clean it (the bike, not the helmet!), I'll be invulnerable :D |
Re: Hi Visibility clothing
Yep - but not all the time. Motorways or night time I'm more likely to.
I get p155ed off by the "you shouldn't cos then you think you're invincible" b0110x. It's still quite possible to wear one and assume they can't\haven't see(n) you. I've hit a car and had the bloke say the words "Sorry mate I didn't see you". I wasn't wearing anthing on that occasion and I have to admit the light conditions were difficult. We agreed to take it knock for knock. Had I been wearing a vest I might have been more inclined to get somethign out of it. Best trick I've seen for being noticed was a Hi-Viz jacket COMBINED with a light mounted on the back of the bike pointing at the riders back. I was following them in the cage and they glowed. Took me a minute or two to work out what was going on. The bike was an ex-police Pan'. Dunno if the light was pre fitted or by the rider but it sure as feck worked. If I could find a tidy way to do the same on my bikes I'd deffo think about it. |
Re: Hi Visibility clothing
I'd be inclined to think that wearing a hi-vis vest + headlights + (esp) white lid, plod would be more inclined to want to take any offending car driver off the road should he pull the "sorry mate, didn't see you" line. I mean, seriously the biker did all that and you still didn't see him - in that case surely we're looking at dangerous driving rather than simple split second loss of concentration.
I suspect wearing the dayglo is also a factor in your favour if you get pulled for some minor infraction and the police are in the mind to think about letting you off with a warning. Dunno, personally it's the white lids I look for when going a little too fast and looking out for stealth plod. But yeah, if you keep thinking "I'm not safe, I'm not safe" regardless of what you're wearing then that's probably the right idea. |
Re: Hi Visibility clothing
After wearing a hi viz vest for all my lessons I hung it up after passing my test and swore never to have one again, just remind me far too much of many attempts at my test and many fails! (6 fails in total:smt089 7th time lucky!)
On a lessons once I managed to make it about 25miles from the center before I noticed I forgot to put one on, not even the instructer noticed:confused: |

Re: Hi Visibility clothing
Yeah, Arai definately do. Also very light silvers which should be about as effective. They tend to be cheaper too, which is nice :)

Re: Hi Visibility clothing
Arai, shoei or nolan do white lids.
