I average about 23mpg in the 8.

I think I get about 21mpg in the civic, not much in it though...

This sounds about right. If I am correct, the old type-r was geared for pure acceleration with a lower top end speed.

I'm off to find Chiswick Honda...time to get the final service :( Might sit on a CBR when I'm there :)

The VTEC is totally 'reversed' from the old and new style Civics - it used to deliver power, but now is engineered to deliver fuel economy.

I don't think the new one is any slower really, just the way the V-Tec comes in is smoother, more gradual and from a lower rev range. Great cars both of them, though not so keen on the rump of the new one, although beauty is in the eye of the beholde.

Had a good look round the new type-r when I was at the garage earlier...quite nice. Grows on you. Obviously need to test it to see if it's any better than mine...

Left mine in for a service and got a 1.4 new shape civic as a loaner...lovely inside but the accelerator's bust :(

TVR Sagaris :D OK so it won't be reliable, but that's the price you pay ;)

Have you thought of alternatives or have you got your heart set on the honda? What about a clio 182? You said you wanted something a bit different but you see type r's everywhere. What is your budget?
