Re: boy racers
I think I'd motion to them to wind down the window and say "come back when your balls have dropped". Then I'd wink and pull away nice and slowly whilst whistling a happy tune. Just because you have it don't mean you have to use it! I had a very short thing with a Lotus Espirit once. I don't really get it very often at all though to be honest.
I did have a very bad time with a white transit once. I was pootling along behind a smart car happy to be near home with no will to overtake and this transit tried overtaking me. I (stupidly) blipped the throttle as if to say no way pal and then it was like being plunged into hell. The smart car promtly disappeared and I'm sure the transit was trying to knock me off, driving like his life depended on it. It was in a town near shops with loads of corners and I couldn't shake him enough to disappear for what felt like days. I did manage to do a left and actually come round behind it but what could I do? I knew that approaching him would be stupid as it could have been full of pikeys and taking the reg number and reporting him would've been as useful as a chocolate teapot. So I took his reg in the hope that I'd see it again and forgot it. I wont bother doing that again. It is amazing when you are riding normally away from lights and look in the mirror to find the cars look like they're sitting there still, yet don't really feel it like you would in a car pulling away at the same rate. I'd say just be safe. I was a boy racer once (in minis if that counts) and sometimes drove like a right moron. Didn't bother racing though as I didn't have a good one til I was 20 and lost the urge by then. :) |
Re: boy racers
Jeez, some folks need to lighten up...... :p
So here we have, Boy racers compartmentalized and even funnier is that, one group deemed alright by one person is deemed not to be, by another. What does that tell us? ;) teriyakimonkey, ".....could have been full of Pikeys....." eh  Ben |

In a Corsa/Nova with 2.0 16v turbo, the problems traction at the start. IF you can get the power down smoothly, your looking at a mid 5-6 second dash to 60mph, but then a dash to 100mph in around 12-14 seconds (sometimes quicker, sometimes slower, depending on car/engine/wheels etc). In standard form, it'll carry on pulling to 150mph, and with a few simple modifications, it'll carry on above 160. I've seen a calibrated stack dash in a tuned LET corsa doing 174mph, i wouldn't fancy that speed in mine though  A very good simple type spec would be. Standard Nova/Corsa Chassis strengthen kit (advised) 4 pot brakes up front Coilovers with 300lb front springs C20LET engine with F28 6 speed box (converted to 2wd) Phase 2/Evo 5 chip Exhaust (needed for conversion) Air filter Larger intercooler You then have a car with about 280-300bhp, similar torque, and weighs about 900-950kg. (let the boffs do the power to weight ratio Vs a Supercar). For that lot excluding the car cost, your looking at about £2.5k for a cheapo conversion (lower spec brakes, suspension, 5 speed gearbox etc), and about £4k-£5k for the above proper spec and a "safer" animal. A Mk1/Mk2 Golf with one of the VAG lumps is an awesome car, I love them. Big power, small weight, good chassis. Again, i think its about a £4k conversion, on the budget side, more than the Vauxhalls, but with similar fun. Again, i've seen a tuned VAG 1.8t golf doing 310km, but that was silly tuned (and a power band of about 2000rpm  ). Animals, expect to fight them all over the road, embarrase many "sports cars" and have a huge grin on your face the whole time. But be embarrassed about being in a small little car  Theres cheaper conversion that are better for track fun, but as a motorway straightline weapon, they are mental!!!! Speak to the wife, get a loan  Its why I can't get rid of mine, even though its sta for over 2 years now, I know if i strip it (mines a NA 2.0 16v), i'll miss it as nothing you buy as new will ever come close to how much fun you can have. No PAS, no ABS, no silly electronics or computers making it safe. Just a lot of power, FWD, lightweight shell, and brown pants :D |

Traffic light races are poo. Much for fun taking it to Santa Pod to do. Proper track, safe, can get higher speeds and real times, and you can race your friends/other people for fun without worry. But ;) Of course we all have the odd play off the lights, but if thats your thing, get a 4WD, Pulsar GTi-R's are great as standard. 13 sec 1/4 mile, but a dodgy clutch/transmission if abused, but unless you get a super car come up next to you, your not gonna loose (excluded evos and such as much higher price range). |
