For the people who bothered to come in, it creates a large amount of tension imo.

WE're sitting here, at work, watching the snow, reading the news how people at home are having fun fun fun.... That includes those who didn't come in....

So im working, and being paid.
They are playing in the snow, being paid.

This makes me, and the others in the office very angry. Its un-fair on those that are making the effort. Why should those having the easy life at home get away with it.

A days holiday, or days deduction in pay, evens out the balance. If i didn't go in due to snow, i wouldn't expect to be paid. If i've at least made the effort, been in for at least a few hours, then it gets bad, and i go home early, I don't think you should be penalised.

People in the UK get a damn easy ride in terms of jobs. Try working in America and see what they would say if you rang in due to "6 inches of snow"

You have no rights, say hello to USA version of a P45........

I didn't go in yesterday, booked it as holiday, no problem. My choice not to go.:D

Went in today, and those who went yesterday didn't turn up today:rolleyes:

I think if you can get in makin reasonable efforts you should. The porter that walked the last 18 miles makes it worse for all those that work for small minded bosses and an example of stupid loyalty (although not many people get a gree bed for 2 nights after they come in)

Should you deduct pay? If they could come in and didn't, weren't ill or booked annual I'd give them the choice, take a day's holiday or lose a days pay. It sets a bad example as Daimo has said, people that make the effort then feel annoyed and slightly mugged

This is true. Nearly every company in the US will have specificly in your contract that they expect you to be at work if they are open, reguardless of the weather...especially manifacturing jobs. Factories NEVER close.
