aah Fizz....How can one so young be so wise? :-k

The Basket 08-06-06 10:23 PM

Does al-Zarqawi ride a SV?

Does anyone ride an SV on this site? :D Apart from me of course

Went for a 120 mile and really enjoyed it. The SV is really at its best when speeded.

The frame on the K5 get red hot!!!Forgot about that.

Didn't see a single terrorist incident or Iraqi insurgent...just idiots pulling wheelies...but Shropshire is boring so I'm not surprised. :?

Again, 6 pages of conversation... So there's something being added. Exact same went for our departed friend of course.

Yes, but it's a discussion that promotes ill feeling between members, and if you notice, once again our learned friend "lights touch paper and stands well back" like the troll he is.....

Maybe a little. But most people are adult enough to have a conversation on the internet without taking away any baggage. TBH I don't think there's any point in coddling people who will take mortal offence or hold grudges, they're going to do it anyway. The question is, should we limit the 95% or whatever who actually take part in these conversations without losing their sense of perspective to placate the 5% who really, seriously, need to grow up?

And if this topic's deemed unsuitable, what next? Practically any conversation can be contentious. How about that one about the guy on the roof being fed by police, with people talkign nonsense about the human rights act? That could kick off. Absolutely anything about stunting on the road, or speed cameras, they've got nasty in the past. You can't pad the site with cotton wool, there's always going to be some sharp edge that someone can cut their tender opinions on if they want to.

There's an al-Zarqawi topic on every site or list I frequent just now, this one's probably the most civil and reasoned I've seen- it's credit to the site that we can
approach a difficult subject and not all spit the dummy.

I dont think northy, Supervox, or Gudster are trolls though. (I only mention these people snce they are sort of active in the thread.) I dont nessesarily agree or dissagree with any of them. Well actually, I do. Gudster is mainly talking sh*te.
Sometimes Socommk is.
There is a fine line. If you are posting up stuff, to wind up people, and get attention, you are trolling.
If you actually are a nutcase, and you accidentally wind everyone up, it looks like trolling, but you are not actually trying to get people annoyed. You are just a nutcase. Or an unpleasant person etc.

sometimes people do need to be wound up (just a little), not least because their complacent assumptions annoy me.
not everyone buys into the same emotive antiUS/antiwar/antiwhatever crap,, and to avoid the thread becoming a liberal-lefty echo-chamber,, its good that they should know that.
the response and resultant vitriol can be quite revealing.
agree or disagree... i dont really care.... but just be aware there is another side that is prepared to oppose those aforementioned assumptions.

So you are right Gudster.

There is no point spending hours preaching to the converted. You have your opinions, you voice them, Northy has his, he voices them, and you both call each other monkeys  and that is completely fine IMO. It is not trolling. You want to take on people, you want to challange people. We all do sometimes. This is the way of things.

We are grown ups, and these things are not really that personal. We say these things because we believe them. The complete oposite to trolling.

And whatever you think about some of these liberal lefties' opinion about politics, you could do worse than listen to their opinions about bikes.

My opinions on politics are so left they are virtually coming back the other side. And what I know about bikes is almost not worth writing down. So, I can safely be ignored on all fronts. :P

Question for you Gudster...... are you actually able to dispute any of the references or information that has been supplied in support of the loony-left argument? Or just insinuate it is not worth listening to because it is as you say, loony left? Seems to be a common tactic amongst some people.

Like you say, obviously Noam Chomsky is a complete liberal US hating loony scumbag. Obviously. But are you able to actually dispute anything he has written? Cos i'm not sure the Bush administration has been able to do that..... don't they just ignore him. Oh, and spread nasty rumours that he is a 'liberal US hating loony scumbag'.

akbarhussain 09-06-06 07:29 AM

Actually, nother couple of question for you Gudster.

In your (humble) opinion:

Why was Iraq invaded and still being occupied?

Why was Afghanistan invaded, and still being occupied?

THnaks for your time.

i rejoined the fray mainly to answer Northwind & Supervox, not to communicate further with you my friend (although you can think yourself lucky that i threw you a few scraps ).
my lack of desire to get entrenched in a "debate" with someone coming from the hard left perspective still stands.
i'd sooner stick pins in my eyes.
go add your comments at Harry's Place if you want a long discussion on your chosen subjects, from both sides of the fence.

Not quite what you said, now is it?

Your response is exactly what I expected....... and it only took 3 simple questions posed to put you off the debate.

Roughly translated, "I cannot answer your questions". I do find you right wingers entertaining, particularly the irony of refering to the left as 'loonie'.

Ah well Gudster, seen as thats the end of the conversation..... I sincerely hope you enjoy the world cup. Please do not go and invade any countries if your chosen team does not win. And do refrain from beatin on the immigrants. Tata for now.

I have to say that for entertainment value akbar and gudster provide a wicked double act! More, more, more!

Filipe M. 09-06-06 12:54 PM

So can anyone explain to me this left and right wing malarky? :?
I mean, Brits drive on the left side of the road, does that make you all left wingers? :?
On the other hand, I'm supposed to drive on the right side of the road (pun intended), does that make me a right winger? :?
And about PH? Born left, drives on the right side now, does it make him center? :?
Sheesh... :?

To be even more confused Filipe you need to go to the Carribbean - visit a 'British' island & you'll find that they drive American cars (left or rather WRONG hand drive) but they are supposed to drive on the left (or CORRECT) side of the road !!
I say 'supposed' because in reality they actually drive whichever side they actually feel like or seems like a good idea at the time !! :D

Yeah. I just... its a death. Someone died. Used to be a child, birthdays, chasing games, girls with pretty eyes, young adult hit by a bomb, corpse.

I just fail to see the reason to rejoice. More corpses. More martyrs. More vengeance. Brilliant.

Then I am looking about, at that pink liberal media bastian, "THe BBC", and I see this:

Russian torture dungeons... and, at a certain point, I dunno, you just start thinking wtf. I grew up with bombs going off up the road, used to it, but safe in the knowledge that its weird, and abnormal.

And, suddenly, now, I realised that I might be wrong. And, it makes me a bit sad.

akbarhussain 09-06-06 04:00 PM

This is something that I find very interesting....... but do people still genuinely believe that the BBC is left wing?

I found the Iraq propaganda, errr, I mean reporting to be quite sickening. How many times were they reprimanded for referring to Insurgents (that word still makes me laugh) as terrorists? lol

With the way the BBC Charter now works, I certainly feel that the BBC can no longer be considered an impartial source of information. Wghich is why the question, is the BBC left wing? I feel that they are dutifully tied to the beliefs of the government.

UlsterSV 09-06-06 04:08 PM

Of course the BBC is to the left. The whole mainstream media is to the left.
